You know why I like Mastodon? Because I can be Steve, python nerd and dad here, and EVE Online clone spaceship captain @EsteDestirr on tweetfleet.social
Federated social media allows us to switch contexts much more easily and decide which contexts should overlap or not. Context profoundly influences identity and self-expression.
Passé par la #France, ça me fait toujours rire comme mon pays d'origine est effusif, démarre au quart de tour, a le sang chaud... Les klaxons, les insultes, les complaintes... Ça m'a fait traverser la ville avec un grand sourire 😃
@aral Imagine the possibilities if children learned LibreOffice, GIMP, Audacity, Pitivi, Inkscape, C, Python - but also GnuPG, Tor, XMPP, OMEMO - at school.
This would not only increase the acceptance of free software, but also the quality would rise to a whole new level. Imagine the number of bug reports and feature requests we would get within three years, imagine the number of people actively working on code within six years.
We could be in a completely different world within six years.
Dingue que ce soit aussi dur de trouver des livres pour bébés et enfants avec des personnages #LGBTIQ... Et encore plus où ce n'est pas nécessairement le thème central !
@fred@Gargron I think that Star Trek blurb is confusing and too much of an inside joke. It will scare people off. I like the idea of 4 main points why Mastodon is good (i.e. the titles) but you need to click on them to "learn more". My two cents.
I think it is very important to remember that just because one thing went well (article 11 and 13) doesn't mean that the good guys have won. It just means that we have some more time to put together robust distributed alternatives to everything before the current iteration of the internet is no longer usable outside of google/facebook/amazon.
It means we have to work harder to make sure that when people trying to take this away succeed they can't take everything.
And this concludes our tour of Strasbourg and its labirynth of halls and procedures.
I am on the train back home. I would have stayed longer and worked on #Art11#Art13#saveyourinternet more, but could not. :/
This is not the end of the fight. The vote is way too close to call. Every MEP counts. I will be calling them from the train, I would even call them from the plane if it were an option.
Your calls are working. MEPs are changing their minds. I saw this first hand.
@uvok definitely a list to work towards. Also on a semi-public instance, still have a Goggle account for a couple of reasons... It's all quite hard. I guess that was a little exercise, listing what could be good to work on for a future Internet that we love :) I wonder if I am missing some important stuff in there? Like maybe something about owning the software and the infrastructure? #commonify ?
This whole #forkofftogether might all be a wonderful thing for the Fediverse. As someone/many have said before, the Mastodon story does not stop with #Mastodon, same as the rest of the #Libre community. And even though I know very little about the whole story, I think it is okay for me to voice the fact that I really would like to see the fork thrive and add to the #fediverse and for the two projects (and all their siblings) to cohabit in a constructive way :) All the best to all ✊🏽🌈
