@Angle might seem very fuzzy, but in very short, what I feel we need is alternatives to current net/working structures that can not be hindered, controlled, throttled, so we get to share resources and information without restrictions, and with the impossibility of outrageous wealth concentration built in. Now, I also hope that empowering humans and giving them the freedom to decide where society goes /does/ breed responsibility, kindness and knowledge.
Hmm. So we can mostly all agree that we don't like our current economic system, right? What kind of changes would people like to see? A change to laws to stop favoring large corporations, a command economy, a decentralized or distributed command economy, better regulation, something else...?
So many cool cats and rad folks on Masto. Following back someone who describes themselves as a "radical feminist" and is into "civic tech" already makes me happy. @sandrabarron
@compostablespork this is a very touching smallstory. It is very hard to say things like that for some people, and it can become a massive regret if never voiced in time. It was never taught in my family – I wonder if it was even repressed. Thank you for sharing.
"It is now more important than ever that we provide support for publications driven by not-for-profit organisations [...] who have clear objectives for supporting the scientific community. [...] Why publish in a journal where profits are going to a board of investors, when instead it could be put towards a scholarship for your next post doc, or a grant for a PhD student to join an international conference?"
Hey everyone! I'm new here. I'm a programmer who used to draw a lot, and I'm working on a multi-user digital painting web app. It's pretty much gonna be like GIMP or Krita but in a web browser.
It's called egaku and it's free software on a AGPLv3 license.
A lot of folks' fear is that when Mastodon grows it'll absorb bad people. I'm gonna say this. I think even if Mastodon literally grows to the size of current Twitter, the world will be better off overall just because of how Mastodon is structured and what values it represents and what tools it provides for dealing with those problems.
"Community owned #coop ISPs are one answer to #NetNeutrality rules being broken. Geeks Without Bonds wants to help communities across the US to create Internet Co-ops by offering educational resources, coordinating bulk equipment orders to lower the cost of start up and maintenance of services, and connecting co-ops together to build the advantages that large corporations get to take for granted. We're building a guide to help plan your network and launch your service."
