When I say it's impossible to talk about someone in French without gendering them, this is not strictly true. There is an entire system of "inclusive writing", complete with neopronouns (there are no gender-neutral pronouns in what I'm going to call "classical French") to remedy the language's huge flaws.
But the use of gender-neutral language in France isn't simply a question of using the words to make them more commonplace. It's a political battle.
Note, during this stream you can see what I look like with a moustache! I've had to promise @DialMforMara that I won't grow one again for at least five years, so this is likely your only chance to see this!
Going live with some figure creation for my next paper. Want to see me using OLEX2 and Povray to render something? After that some editing, if you want a preview of my next paper.
@ky0ko hmmm, good point. Looks like it is more complicated then I thought. But Wikipedia says there is a fax over IP standard for use with VoIP connections, and devices designed to let legacy fax machine use modern digital phone lines, so I bet there is a way.
@ky0ko Mac and Windows both have fax systems built in where you can hook a phone jack up to your PC. I mean, neither still come with phone jacks, but they used to....
@ky0ko But I mean, old fax machine still work, right? The fax is just an audio signal, isn't it? So as long as it arrives at the other end OK it should be fine....
@ky0ko Not at all, that was considered to be one of the first killer apps for PC, according to my Dad. Now I think Mac and Windows both have it built in.
@Jssra But yeah, one company having issues, and two others trying to scale up (or not being able to scale up, since they where already running at capacity and can't build new factories in the short term) seems very plausible from what little I know of process chemistry.
@Jssra It seems their client had a production line sitting idle as they needed a specific chemical for it to work. However, the plant that made that chemical in China had just *exploded* meaning their normal supplier wasn't getting them any of that chemical any time in the near future.
@Jssra It could be there is a common ingredient that they where all getting from one supplier. I heard a story at a talk recently where the chemist talked about how his company was asked to make something special for another company.
