As an aside, Smashing Pumpkins "Fuck You (An Ode to No One)" is just so, so good. Chills every. single. time.

So what I’m understanding is that I need to make it look like I’m coming from the EU and choose EU settings in order to get a semblance of privacy protection from centralized surveillance web sites?

Alexa recorded a couple's private conversation and sent it to a random contact.
Amazon said it's "an extremely rare occurrence."
Get this thing out of your home, folks.

Tumblr tried to sneak in data collection under the radar. After a few taps, you can get a list of who they're sharing data with.
The list takes 19 screenshots to see all the names on my phone.
NINETEEN.

On the one hand, I try to focus on bringing positivity into the world.
On the other hand, I'd love to make a podcast where me and 1-2 other smartass parents dissect children's TV shows, episode by episode.
"Once again, Dora wanders unsupervised through a treacherous jungle, accompanied only by an insect mariachi band and an irresponsible monkey..."

@Stephen_Stone I'd respectfully disagree. As it is, it is hard to build up a conversation on Mastodon - if you respond to someone, people only ever see your response without context, making them more likely to skip the convo than engage. It also creates more work on the Tooter to create counterpoints or highlight greater narratives.
Sure, it can be used to dunk on people, which creates a negative atmosphere. But Masto users have been a pretty responsible bunch by and large.

it should be clear at this point that the fight against government surveillance and corporate surveillance IS THE SAME FIGHT
if civil liberties groups & organizations are engaged in fighting surveillance technologies for their potential abuse by a government but fall short to question the power that corporations have to deploy surveillance tools in the first place.. it may backfire and turn out to be just a gift for the libertarian tech-overlords

This paper is 🔥
Crowdsourced counter-surveillance. Motorists banding together to tell everyone where speed traps and random breath testing is happening.
Check the #OpenAccess Surveillance publishing journal too. More of stuff like that please!! 👩🔬
