I impulse bought an ebay System 76 Gazelle. If it's as good as it looks it'll be pretty great for $450. But now I'm nervous...

Yeah, the old Mac OS is nice. Not committed to the idea. :)I'd be with you on new powered laptop with an old style body and keyboard. They should feel solid!

C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Monday, 02-Jul-2018 13:41:06 EDT C.Cameron I fired up my Powerbook G4 today and it is such a sweet machine. I need to replace the keyboard and it's slow as molasses, but it feels so solid and I that keyboard is wonderful for typing. I've never gotten used to chiclet keyboards. Makes me want to revive it just for writing. Maybe I can install Lubuntu or something to get it running 7% faster.

“Before Twitter, before algorithmic timelines filtered our reality for us, before surveillance capitalism, there was RSS: Really Simple Syndication … As we move away from the centralised web to the peer web, it’s time to rediscover, re-embrace, and reclaim RSS.”

Yes, I guess that's true. I like the idea of promoting mastodon a bit too, but if I got better at blogging I could go the other way. Hm... -
C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Friday, 22-Jun-2018 13:45:01 EDT C.Cameron I used Mastofeed to put my art mastodon feed on my web site, which is sweet. Sadly, it adds 3 seconds of load time back to the site. We'll see about that.

C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Friday, 22-Jun-2018 11:45:05 EDT C.Cameron Totally. Running an art business where Instagram and Facebook are expected to promote my art, while I think they are evil and the worst, is a huge conflict I have right now.

C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Friday, 22-Jun-2018 01:32:07 EDT C.Cameron How do you people ever focus on anything on a computer that has internet and settings to play with? I seem to only be able to write anything with either a pen and paper or the alphasmart keyboard thingy that doesn't do anything but type words. I'm just too scatterbrained otherwise.

C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Friday, 22-Jun-2018 00:35:13 EDT C.Cameron Removing an unnecessary instagram photo display widget from my web site made my page load time go from 15 seconds to 1.6 seconds. Dang. That was refreshing.

C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Monday, 18-Jun-2018 15:40:49 EDT C.Cameron Indeed. As a self-taught non-programmer baby nerd, I have run into this often, though it has been getting better over the last few years. I appreciate very much when projects make things welcoming to new folks who don't know the "obvious" things.

C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Friday, 15-Jun-2018 13:14:37 EDT C.Cameron Finally fixed this deeply stupid problem. After tech support fails with my web host and isp, turns out that changing the MAC address deep in the router settings solved it. Guess it got blocked somehow? No idea. At least it works again. Whew.

There should be a hall of fame for bad tech support quotes. My dude laughed really hard at "yes, but what version of computer is it?" -
C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Thursday, 14-Jun-2018 11:15:34 EDT C.Cameron @hund
Well, I can't access my web site from my home internet, even though it's up on other networks. I was on tech support chat with frontier to see what was going on, and he kept asking questions I'd already answered, asking "what version of computer" I had, and I said it was Linux, said "so it's an Apple" And then after insisting he could only do a "tracerouter" with a Windows or Apple, I did it myself and copied the results, he said it wasn't their problem. Totally unhelpful and ridiculous.👺
