I'm a noob too, but am pleased with how much you can do with searching and trying stuff. I know more than I used to! Worst case, you break your OS and have to reinstall. I've done that lots of times. :)

Well, the 2-finger scroll on the touchpad is jumpy, but edge scroll is fine, so I'm going with that. All set up with Manjaro XFCE, and I am content.

I just know the internet was dying for the up to the minute update on my install. :)

Well, the Gazelle runs nicely, but the touchpad is jumpy and weird. I've never had this problem before, so I'm not sure what driver problems are going on, or what.

In other news, the System 76 Gazelle I got off ebay from someone who clearly knew nothing about Linux is a thing of beauty, even if it smells strongly of dude cologne (I'll burn extra incense around it or something). Going to put PopOS, just to try it and get the full experience, and go from there.

PSA: Before relinquishing control of your old computer, please remove all photos of your drivers license from the download folder. The person who gets said computer may not reformat before selling it a random woman across the country. Oh my gosh. Reformatting now. 😬

Out of curiosity, how much do you good people convert family and friends to Linux? Or is it just a pain because that would be even more family tech support than I assume you already do? 😉

Most of my family don't care, but I'm so proud when someone is interested in computing philosophy and freedom and stuff.

Well, my mom's new computer is all shiny and nicely dual-booted with Linux Mint. She wanted to move to Linux, but with a Mac safety net, since she has been using that and is not nerdy. Never did get the sweet Refind menu going with the newer mac version, but the machine runs very nicely. I told her she got nerd cred for formatting a usb drive, even if I did the actual install.

Awesome. That's why I want it. My Linux-running Macbook Air is pretty old and I didn't want to get something and find out it had locked down bios or weird driver issues. This one is used, but assuming it's in good shape like it's s'posed to be, it should be all my laptop dreams come true. :)

I impulse bought an ebay System 76 Gazelle. If it's as good as it looks it'll be pretty great for $450. But now I'm nervous...
