Another video in my "Bond in Context" series, investigating the historical context of the James Bond movies! Here's "Live and Let Die," one of the strangest entries in the series. Its context has to do with the black film boom of the early 70s, angst over inflation, urban decay and the Russians, and of course a new James Bond.

The story. I'm working on was (last draft) finished in 1997, but takes place in 1988. Strange, today, to immerse myself back in the head space of that time. Being a teenager in the 80s was an odd and purgatorial experience. So easy, yet also so hard, to recreate.

Long day of writing. I'm tinkering with the manuscript of a novel I haven't touched in 21 years. It needs a lot of work, obviously!

I just read about an utterly disgusting diet where people deliberately ingest tapeworm cysts. That is just horrifying. Who would do that?

Interiors: the "Tristan story bedroom" at Neuschwanstein Castle, Bavaria, 1886. This is not a real medieval castle, but a 19th century romanticist pastiche of what a medieval castle was supposed to look like. Amazing, though!

So, it looks like I'll be teaching two separate classes of unified 6th and 7th graders this year, both classes American history. That will simplify the prep for sure. It will be a good year. 👍

Personally my wants are modest. I came here to socialize on an instance where there are no Nazis. My instance is based in Austria where promoting Nazism is illegal. I'm greatly enjoying the enforced absence of Nazis. I may move to Austria. 😎🍺

Hope I'm not being rude by jumping in. In my view we're not yet sure what Mastodon is. It's not fully developed. I also noticed you're on dot social. I'm on a smaller instance, I never saw anything on McCain in my timeline, which is pretty tranquil. Generally I try to CW any mention of politics because some folks came here to escape it.
