I think he just wants to sell albums, but the music itself doesn't move units like it used to, so he's trying to fill the gap with being outlandish.

@alice Which is why the convo about equality always stops at the color line.

The understand oppression in their context but *refuse* to extend that to a population that still experiences that level of violence to this day.

And we know where that inability of extending basic human understanding comes from. It's a cornerstone of whiteness, whether people want to acknowledge that's where they get the idea or not.

@alice That's a great description of what privilege is. The ability to feel comfortable and safe no matter where you are, to the point that if one doesn't feel that way it's automatically BAD.

Literally everyone one else in America doesn't have that luxury. We have to make decisions everyday wether a space is bad for us or just uncomfortable. And one gets pretty good at if after a while.

White folks just don't have this frame of reference b/c everything caters to their comfort.

@alice It's a catch 22. No matter what I do, certain folks just aren't going to like it.

It's not even what I'm saying. Ha, a lot of folks just don't like Black folks so they are going to be antagonistic no matter what I do.

It doesn't matter that I make sense.

@ansugeisler I think when he stopped to think about how he sounded he tried to clean it up, which I can appreciate. Obviously the dude knows what he's talking about.

But for me it shows a deep lack of insight to the issues plaguing film making if he thinks the Marvel movies are the problem.

Does he understand filmmaking as craft? Of course. But does he understand the culture of what he's talking about.

I'm not sure he does. And he doesn't have to b/c he's a rich old white dude.
