    @GinnyMcQueen

    And the post is now down.

    They've posted what's probably meant as a more thoughtful followup, but still: no apology.

    I've worked with blocklists since 1995 (for other protocols). You learn to apologize early on.

    Something like this, you post a followup saying "so-and-so that we accidentally blocked/mishandled/whatever is cool, check out their stuff." There is ZERO reason not to be nice... unless you really don't like the person.

    this is why companies have PR firms, so they can hide the intentions of the men behind the curtains

    FOSS dudes haven't figured out how repulsive their shit actually is, so their assholery is either out in the open or they're trying to hide it like trying to hide a giraffe in a bathtub

    It is impossible to have community when you don't respect the concerns of people that are not like you.

    Period.

    @KitsuneAlicia @brainblasted And now this weird thing is happening where he wants people to understand his frustration, when he not only makes no effort to understand why people reacted how they did, but takes it a step further to demean those concerns in the most disrespectful way possible.

    Ha, but yeah, he wants a 'healthy' community.

    @GinnyMcQueen And that's _intentional_.

    They do that specifically for a reason. It's not just happen stance these reaction always leave out the part that would actually do some good.

    I looked through all their replies, they didn't say sorry once. Maybe they did in private, but like, saying "sorry our shitty bots blocked something it shouldn't have at the worst possible time, that must have sucked, we're sorry that happened" wouldn't be hard to do

    look I just typed it for you

    @brainblasted And his response was to call the concern of people that have to deal with hate groups all the time 'insane'.

    I can understand the need to defend oneself, but the sheer malice of that response because people are wary of an action on his part is something I can't look past.

    I'm not saying these things about these project because I don't like them. I think Masto is brilliant as a codebase. I love the intention behind Pixelfed.

    I say these things because their leadership all share a particular point of view that is _dangerous_ to people that don't look, act, think like them.

    It's not about like or dislike. It's about not taking the concerns of people not like them seriously, but claiming to want community.

    And that's bullshit.

    @freakazoid Ha, which is funny to me in the context of American history and the almost one sided violence of hate groups in America.

    Ha, we actually have a reason to be wary of y'all.

    One thing I really love about being on the fedi is that it's showing in realtime that the main problem with fighting and minimizing the harm violent and hateful bigots commit in online spaces is often enabled by people who choose to do nothing.

    Dr. MLK Jr. famously said the biggest impediment to progress is the white moderate.

    That thought is crystallized if one observes the sheer amount of nonchalant cowardice in FOSS that protects bigots under the guise of 'fairness'.

    That said, I'm glad it happened. I like this moment because it shows me what people are really about and who is trying to build a better community rather than those who just talk a good game.

    Because it makes the work I'm doing easier and authentic. People can see the divide between talking about inclusion, diversity and safety and actually doing it.

    I think the fedi will be better for it. Ha, just not in the way people think.

    But that's the fun part.
