    #Paypal bans #Gab following #Pittsburgh shooting

Almost immediately after the shooter’s identity was revealed by media outlets, screenshots of his profile on Gab appeared, revealing a slew of anti-Semitic rants.

@sn0w So far I've added (in some cases guessed) the following variables into the Dockerfile, but am stuck at the last one. I'm sure there are more but I don't know Docker and can't really read the various files to figure it out.

    PLEROMA_EMOJI_SHORTCODE_GLOBS
    PLEROMA_UPLOADS_STRIP_EXIF
    PLEROMA_DESCRIPTION
    PLEROMA_FEDERATING
    PLEROMA_REWRITE_POLICIES

When I succeed in documenting the server-to-server masto-ActivityPub protocol, I am definitely going to put out the tip jar on that set of posts. This is ....... an endeavor. #mastodev #fedidev

@sn0w Hey there, I figured out enough Docker to get past pleroma-docker issue #4 (the unset emoji environment variable) and get the same issue then with PLEROMA_UPLOADS_STRIP_EXIF. I can't log in to the gitlab to post this on the ticket because confirmation emails never arrive.

Wow. Managed to avoid #Docker for the loooooongest time for somebody with my predilections.

    Not impressed so far.

ahhhhh, nothing like a state of the art 'sudo curl' install recommended in the official #Docker docs.... what decade is it again, etc etc etc

Okay welp it looks like #Pleroma might federate on a nonstandard port, so I guess the next thing is to figure out how to get it running most easily in a VM. #fedidev

Does anybody know if it's possible to run #Pleroma on nonstandard ports and have it federate right? Or the free tier of $cloud_service_du_jour?

@SarcasmKid Good luck! I've had something roughly similar go on. We'll get through!

Boy do I wish more open-source projects, in their contributing guidelines, gave any sort of notion on HOW TO FUCKING CONTRIBUTE, not just how to get your contributions to the main developers.

Tell me where the fuckin' files are gonna be! how to install a dev-friendly iteration of your project! Stop assuming I'm able to quickly self-teach myself these things! I just wanna look around!

@kaniini we will definitely be looking into that once we grok the protocol well enough to really have an opinion. I think I'm gonna put a reminder in though to be sure. I read some of the history a couple weeks ago and was interested in litepub

@kaniini actually now that you mention it, getting to full litepub support would be a good milestone for us. good idea. thanks

@kaniini Hey, quick question from somebody who knows absolutely nothing about Elixir: say I wanted to stand up a Pleroma instance rq and then twiddle the knobs and kick the tires while logging all request-response data from server-to-server traffic... how difficult would this be? I'm trying to document the protocol and given the particulars of my situation, Pleroma seems like I could get it running much easier.

pleroma and mastodon have about the same number of features, but they are different due to different niches being served.

pleroma has strong handling of rich media and handles a fuller activitystreams taxonomy, while mastodon's featureset is optimized towards being a twitter alternative.

both are valid developmental directions and useful for different people with different needs.

@mastohost Is there any way for a user on your service to poke at Rails enough to make it dump request and response data from a functioning instance? I'm trying to document how the federation protocol works and it would be great if I could just do this somewhere like Mastohost instead of having to shave weeks worth of yaks learning enough Rails admin to get a running instance first. #mastodev
