the idea that ""CS formalism"" has anything to do with clean code is shown to be completely false if you've ever tried to work with code written by academics. it's literally the worst segment of code out there for "we just needed to get this shipped what do you mean we're still using it 20 years later".

it's all bullshit. writing it cleaner takes more effort but way less time in the long run.
