#Firefox #ProTip: Stop videos from autoplaying! (Updated for Firefox 63!)

1. Go to `about:config` and convince it that you know what you're doing.

2. Search for `media.autoplay.default`.

3. Double-click `0` and enter `1` if you want to always block, or `2` if you want to be prompted for every site that tries to autoplay (which can help with some sites that don't work quite right with blocked autoplay.)

4. Enjoy your significantly-more-pleasant browsing experience!

Brief survey of #encryption chat apps I've looked into:

Signal: gold standard, heavily reviewed, metadata quite private, but requires your phone number.

Wire: equivalent to Signal on messaging, less private around metadata, but can use a username. I prefer Wire.

WhatsApp: equivalent to Signal on messaging, but Facebook has and uses metadata.

Telegram: rolled their own crypto, not at all hard to find trustworthy cryptographers calling their work out. Not sure what their state is in 2018 but 2015 was bad.

No. Stop. Don't do that. Don't npm install -g a tool you need in your project. Install it as a dependency (possibly dev) _of_ your project, so that other people who use your code don't have to globally modify their system to get your code to work.

Just to weigh in, if _any_ system you're using has "private" messages and they're not end-to-end encrypted (few are, and even fewer are competently), _someone_ has access to all of those messages.

The way I see it, knowing your admin on a Mastodon instance is a win. You don't get that option with any commercial social network.

@balrogboogie changed the login process to use the browser, so you can log in if you use 2FA now. https://github.com/zigg/fediplay/pull/13

I also got off my butt and changed the way we handle links; fediplay will now try every link in a tagged toot until it finds one it can play, and not crash if it finds zero (even if there *are* zero links). https://github.com/zigg/fediplay/issues/3
