@oreolek we're using specifically java with microsoft sql server so both of those have at least passable hashing options that would have been worth at least a mention

@kemonine i wanted to use bcrypt but i'd need to include another lib for it and that would make turning in the project more difficult

@wilbr i mean it's mostly shocking because the class has otherwise been mostly on top of things. we covered nosql systems, parallel db systems / transactions, and hardening against sql injections, but not password hashing !?

i said "fuck that" because we're allowed to design our own schemas for it and so i'm just using sql server's built in HASHBYTES function for my password field but i refuse to perpetuate the cycle

uhhhhhh my database class is having us design a simple web application with users and some other stuff and uhhhhh they want us to store the passwords in plaintext???
