Windows deciding to reboot several times while updating isn't exactly practical, when Windows isn't the default OS in the bootloader.
@jjg this is kinda funny when in Denmark, we use our national health insurance cards (generic ID, because everyone has them) to "log in" to library services ;P
The Danish word for food ("mad") has two distinct forms. The uncountable form is equal to the English word.
And then there's the countable form ("en mad" / a food) which is always a slice of ryebread with something of top. E.g. ostemad = ryebread with cheese.
Some of those "madder" are so easy to eat without utensils, that we call them "håndmadder" (= hand foods).
"Håndmadder" is also an old metaphor for being slapped and/or hit in the face. So there's that.
There is no cyberpunk without postfurry.
There is no privacy without cyberpunk.
There is no democracy without privacy.
There is no freedom without democracy.
There is no peace without freedom.
Postfurry is peace. Q.E.D.
@dsh if you enjoy hard rock / metal played in a totally different mood, try looking up Hellsongs on YouTube.
One of my favourites of theirs is Symphony of Destruction, originally by Megadeth

relatedly, I'm sick and tired of always being in "rebuilding community and social circle" mode.
I've known so many people, had so many friends through the few years I've been around. But not that many of those friends actually knew each other, and even fewer of them stuck around.
I just want some kind of friend-group that I can hang out with and do fun stuff with.
I just want to belong. Is that too much to ask for?

I find it kinda funny how computers are supposed to do exactly what you tell them to, but because SPEEEED, someone told the computers to guess ahead of time what might happen, instead of just doing what the instructions actually says.
And now everyone is hurting, because we told computers to do stuff we didn't ask them to.
80% of what I want from a "social network" I had 10 years ago. Mastodon barely gives me 40%, but at least it's better than Twitter and Facebooks 10%.
I am so fucking tired of open alternatives "copying" the designs optimised for capitalism, and just saying "this is what we want, just freeeee".
This whole model of everything centered around a constantly updating stream of "content" with no regard of topic or context is designed for and by capitalists to maximize surveillance potential.
Does anyone have any recommendation for a personal NAS server?
It needs to have WiFi and be very unlikely to spy or report back on usage.
Free software on it isn't a requirement, but obviously a boon.
I'd also like it to support DLNS (I think our TV can do that natively).
"Property is theft" is a ridiculous slogan.
The weak point is that it doesn't distinguish between private property and personal property.
I'd define the border between private and personal property as one of "is this object or area being used in my personal life" - If yes, then it's probably personal property. If not, then we can call it private property.
The latter is what an anarchist society must abolish.
The ability to own things that other people use to do stuff is harmful.
My hobby: Writing verbs referring to participating in capitalism as a consumer in title case and adding a ™.

I want to do a bit of research on opinions on federation for my #decentwebeu project. I'm digging for arguments in favor of decentralising. Please boost and/or answer any of these questions:
1) How aware are you of the federated nature of this network in your day-to-day use?
2) Which, if any, concepts of federated networks do you find challenging, confusing or foreign?
3) Why are federated networks "better" than centralised social networks (silos)?
(The last question is biased, roll with it)
More doodling on this visual programming language #crazyidea
If you as a person are aware of the filter and can remove it, then IT IS NOT A BUBBLE, IT'S A SHIELD.
Bubbles are maintained or burst by outside forces, shield are raised or lowered on purpose.
Blocking assholes does not create filter bubbles.
#crazyidea : a Mastodon instance, where every new account is a random generated fantasy RPG character, and you'd be locked out of editing your name, pic and bio; all of which would comprise your charactersheet.
Followers and followees would be replaced by XP and level counters.
Bots would administer loot/magic items/weapons and other both would pop up to be random encounters or dungeon crawls or even story lines run by admin GMs.
MUD meet social web.
Been a while since I've posted a #crazyidea - I guess I've been tired. But here's a new one:
Imagine a tycoon like game a la OpenTTD. But instead of bits given fancy names such as wood and goods, you're transporting datastructures.
But you're also responsible for designing the factories that change the datastructures into the requested forms.
And then you can compile it to actual working software.
Ok, this isn't actually a new idea, it's just visualised differently.
