    @thor  Global warming is also affected by the Tragedy of the Commons. If you view climate as a common resource, used by many actors (which are the states or countries in the world), each country that acts to protect climate does it at a cost, and a country that cheats and does nothing to protect the climate will be at an economic competitive advantage while benefiting from the actions of the other countries to protect climate.

    @thor Within the scientific theories some are controversial and some are not, within the controversial, some are for scientific reasons and the others (such as climate change and evolution) are only controversial outside the scientific "realm" due to economical and/or other reasons (such as dogmatic belief) which translate in a strong political interest. I think you are perfectly right on all you said, but the denial of some of those issues is bringing us towards a global disaster.

    Norwegian newspaper clipping from 1966 mentioning "the greenhouse effect" and "defrosting of the Arctic" and how we may already be causing such an effect through "negligence" (the topic of the article is apprently how one might go about defrosting the Arctic on purpose).

    We've known about global warming for ages. The problem is that public opinion isn't coherent enough to force political action. We are blind fools fighting over the deck chairs on the Titanic.

    @thor In fact, the first reference to global warming caused by human emissions dates from the 1910's (although I don't remember the reference from the top of my head). It was also mentioned as a positive thing because it was bringing southern birds to northern Europe (I think it was Denmark).
