@bgcarlisle why does running synchthing on a server and synching folders to a folder under Apache/Ngunx w/ basicauth password protect feel like a not insane option to me? I hate how my brain works...

@bgcarlisle +1 for the magic that is syncthing. I used to run owncloud years back... I frankly didnt trust I was patching my server regularly enough and synch’ing was painfully slow

@bgcarlisle I love asking people about their back-up strategies :) any recommendations? Currently using duplicati to make local and remote back-ups

PHP is a lot like Windows in that its history of severe vulnerabilities has resulted in modern iterations being very secure while similar players in the space have stagnated.

PHP 7 ships with libsodium, has built-in password derivation support backed by argon2i or bcrypt, and a bunch of other goodies that Python for example doesn’t.

Theo de Radt seems to think Windows now does security and patching better than Linux or FreeBSD (but of course not OpenBSD 😉)
