Regular PSA that if you call every bad thing capitalist as code for "I don't like this", it becomes impossible to talk sensibly about capitalism as an economic model, and therefore also harder to actually do anything about that model and the problems with it. Generic good/bad tautology logics and binary views of how complex systems work do not make for functional political change.

OK, this is a "boosts needed" post, please boost this if you see it. At least one organisation I'm involved in has a major problem in that it runs online and needs to be able to ballot members, and just about all the easy services for doing so aren't GDPR compliant.
Would anyone be interested in clubbing together to try and run a Euro-side, compliant server of CIVS or a similar e-voting system that could be used by community groups, activist orgs, and so on?

@bgcarlisle I think/suspect 3 is by far the largest of these threats, and the one we're both least capable of fighting and least willing to learn to fight as a community.

Jokes about murdering 'capitalists', whatever you may think of them, are a) politics posts and b) posts about death/killing. They should be CWed, always, no matter how hot a take you think they are.
I admit I don't see a lot of humour in "bloodily purge the elite" jokes, as a historian (it's amazing how the "elite" description stretches when put into practice). But even if you think it's hilarious fun, it's still killing-politics and you should still cw it.

Whilst I'm a straight/cis/white guy, this nonetheless speaks to a lot of the reasons 40K never clicked with me as a setting:
https://medium.com/@RealDorianDawes/lets-talk-about-warhammer-40k-830b27686a6eMaking the Imperium "the good guys" is done too often & wholly rips the soul out of 40K as a setting IMO. The Imperium are absolutely fascists - they should be a rotting, horror-show broken hulk of a culture that people only cling to for fear of something worse (which is where the T'au can get really interesting).

I object strongly to the idea that this is merely a cat pic sharing site - Masto is for sharing all the other flufflybeasts as well! :)

MASTODON NERDS, HEED MY WORDS:
I need your "random encounters for a fantasy warband" ideas again. Specifically looking for "things you might encounter in plains/fields" and "things you might encounter in woods". Ideally not just monsters - I'm thinking sidequest givers, upgrade offerers, or other things with more interesting "hooks" about them.

OK, here's a thing about political terminology that people need to get their heads around and frankly too many people here and everywhere don't: English-language political terminology is still, even in the internet-driven C21st, very localised and extremely variable in its usage. You can *never* just post on a public platform and "assume everyone knows what you mean" by a lot of political terms.

I can't help feeling that all the "America is a failed state" takes (of which there are plenty) risk being rather insular and unintentionally flippant about what "failed state" actually means for people in places where government has literally collapsed, which is what the term usually actually means. America has a LOT of problems, but the literal collapse of its central and state governments isn't actually one of them.
