I love the idea of the #fediverse, where there are all these different services that can all talk and share stuff on the same underlying framework. The HUGE issue I'm having is I still have to make accounts on almost a dozen servers to be able to share different kinds of content. #Pixelfed for images, #mastodon for short messages, #Plume for blogging, and now #prismo for reddit-esk news. Whatever happened to federated logins like #OpenID that let me use my main to sign into other sites? 🤔😓
It's a bit silly how this came about - I was trying to paint minis while other people were using the projector, and the little lamps I had at my disposal have really bad CRI, so I couldn't tell colors apart.
Finally, I have sourced and soldered all of the parts for a D&D mini-painting battery-powered lamp: It's using a Dewalt 20V battery, four Bridgelux V8D LED COBs (at 3000k, the same as the light in the D&D room), a MP1584EN DC step-down (to ensure a constant 16V), and a potentiometer+resistor to limit current. I tried not using the Vreg, but the math suggested I'd melt things. Next step: Goodwill for a donor lamp, and 3d-printing a battery mount / base.
@thegibson For whatever reason, Creality shipped all of their printers in the last couple of years with thermal runaway detection disabled and no bootloader loaded. I mean, it probably saved them one step in the assembly process, but they're already programming the microcontroller, why not spend five seconds adding a bootloader?
Earlier this week, I inexplicably moved my hairbrush out of the bathroom. For four days, every time I got out of the shower and went to brush my hair, it wasn't there. I knew exactly where it was, but instead of taking 20 seconds to go get it and put it back in its right spot, I made do with a crappy, ill-suited comb.
I love how much of the space science they got right (with some allowance for the magnetic boots working too well), but then they go all Hollywood with the gun physics.
Taking cover behind an IBC container? That's plastic. It might stop a pellet from an airsoft rifle...
Using my partner's arduino uno to flash a bootloader on to the control board of my Ender 3, so I can update the firmware with a more up-to-date open source version.
It all worked out, with the only snag being that Windows is pretty bad at "USB Serial" ports.
Now my printer has thermal runaway protection, so if the thermistor fails in the hotend my house won't burn down.
Also, we get to meet Mother Elise, but I've have preferred to meet the whole Manheim-Mannheim-Guerrero-Robinson-Zilberschlag-Hsung-Fonzerelli-McQuack polycule.
I love how casually #polyamory is brought up. How a main character is the product of a marriage between eight people, and his birth mother, well, "Mother Elise had the widest hips."
Maybe the "full genetic mix" thing is a bit wonky, but it's not clear if that is deliberate gene editing or a randomized selection.
@technomancy nice! I was unfamiliar with that one. I've got too many NodeMCU boards to justify switching over, but they do look really nice, and pretty cheap.
For another project, I'm using a first-generation Digispark; I have a deep appreciation for tiny self-programming dev boards.
@technomancy What board is that? I've been working on a project using a NodeMCU running Micropython. But the board you're using looks quite a bit smaller.
@fdroidorg I'd be happy to help, but it's not clear what you need. If you need somebody to check on the four criteria (compliance, author notification, rfp/fdroiddata correctness, build sanity) that's probably something I can help out with. It looks like you might need a workflow of assigning MRs to volunteers to do the legwork.
I'm not stoked about it being on discord, but if you stick to just using the browser-based client, it can't dig its tentacles in too deeply. The native apps are not to be trusted.
They chat but also have voice calls to practice speaking it. I'm not ready to try to speak it yet, but looking forward to listening in to try to get an ear for it.
I am "jan Juki Towen" which is the closest transliteration I could work out for my online handle.
Amusingly, bots are all named "ilo [name]" instead of "jan [name]" which makes sense...
It's tempting to call the closing of the Trump Foundation a "Corporate Death Penalty" because we really want that to exist, but that's wishful thinking.
The Trump Foundation's closure serves the exact purpose it was created for - insulating Trump and his cronies from the legal consequences of actions they took, by pretending a separate corporate entity took them. It's ablative legal protection, and they'll just make more when they need it. They probably already have.
Holy crap, #mastalab actually retained my position in the home timeline even after being force-killed in Android. I had to manually request all of the toots in the gap between the last-read and the most recent 40, but it actually worked and didn't change my position when I did so.
It feels fragile, but the rest of the client works better than AndStatus (handles multiple images, actually _shows_ images instead of forgetting them, uses Android's autocorrect...) so I'll try it for a few days.
