I had to improv a fight with a mob of costumes in a backstage dressing room at a theatre, using the Animate Objects spell. :D I assigned articles of clothing a size based on the spell, used the included stats, and then added some reactions to make it interesting: the cape tried to smothe, the pantaloons twisted and grappled the rogue’s sword arm, etc.

And then they all got arrested.

I love this game.

I recall enjoying the book but it was so long ago now I don't remember if I had similar complaints about the structure.

Annihilation was pretty alright as a #film; in particular the sound design and soundtrack were great. pacing was a little problematic tho, and I think it might actually have worked better if the film started inside the shimmer and slowly filled in context as tension rose. the bookends made it hard to keep the tension, and the debriefing undercut it every time. Time would have been better spent exploring the ensemble's backstories.

40 million #DnD players annually, says Wizards of the Coast. I'd be very interested to know how they arrive at that number, but plus I imagine it's accurate to within a million or two. Regardless, how great is it that so many people are getting around a table to tell a story?

And I know the indie #TTRPG folks are all handwringy about this, but I've got no skin in that -- I'm just glad to see more people doing something social, and creative, and empathetic.

@woodentulip woof. my best and most concise advice is, literally do not do that, for that way madness lies. Taking on the burden of safeguarding your organization from failure is impossible, because failure is the default operating state of all systems, especially systems involving humans.

However, if you're asking about how to handle cases where systemic failures occur, in a way that is productive, that we can talk about.

today: ran training for a couple hundred people on revised hiring guidelines and processes for a job family, oversaw the start of a qualitative risk analysis of a major recurring process, and mentored a new engineer on coding standards. #OpsLife
