Nice work!
@61 +1 Hope to see more organisations like @noybeu join federated social networks. So that we could follow them from here 🙃
@hypolite Yes, you did!
@thor There is https://podupti.me It currently tracks only diaspora protocol servers. It provides age, uptime, user count and other useful information. Users can rate servers. There's also a wizard to choose a pod automagically. It's not like Rottentomatoes, thankfully:) The idea to provide registration "load balancing" (for those who don't want to choose manually) is great. It could promote small (stable, updating) servers instead of large ones: https://mastodon.social/@Gargron/99961967064684289
From now on I'll explain #FOSS as "fully open source"
Words "free / libre" don't resonate with newcomers with no technical or legal background.
FSF About page uses the word "freedom" 67 times. Try reading it in non-English language.
Meanwhile many companies open source *parts* of code and use it as extra bonus. In reality some of them don't fully open source infrastructure or share other details, making it nontrivial for anyone to run the service on their own. That's open source. Not FOSS.

🐘 Periodic #mastoworld overview
Humanities
• https://expshift.com - for creatives (art, music, movie reviews and anything in between)
Language specific
• https://mstdn.su - for #Russian speaking users
Programming
• https://phpc.social - #PHP community
❓ are there any other programming language specific instances, apart from ⬆️ and https://ruby.social?
Write.as is now #FOSS! 🎉 We've named the software behind it #WriteFreely.
WriteFreely lets you self-host a single federated blog or a community of blogs. It's written in Go / #golang, it's lightweight, and runs everywhere -- even on a Raspberry Pi! (We tried 😁)
We just launched v0.1 this weekend, and v0.2 is already coming out early this week. You can try a full demo here: https://pencil.writefree.ly
Get started with hosting or find a permanent instance here: https://writefreely.org
@wakest I think an icon instead of "post" or "toot" would be just as good -> 🐘 Btw, come to Hubzilla! You'll find so many user changeable settings there you'll be overwhelmed :p Seriously though, many settings are packed as apps one installs now. So the process of learning is a bit more conscious / interactive.
@wakest Well, I was not correcting, but slightly trolling honorable Jake on that one:) Different special terms used by many Fediverse networks *are* confusing for newcomers. Having said that, your idea to let admins tweak servers that much might lead to buttons like "shit", "woot", "lumos" and other kinds of craziness. Not sure how that would be better.
@writeas_dev Hmm. It is development.write.as, but I think it's not shown in servers table, it's hidden. I saw WriteFreely in "network stats view" - and now found the server through developer tools. Magic! Perhaps it's a sign that diaspora protocol is worth supporting 😋
@writeas_dev Saw WriteFreely on podupti.me. For a moment I thought it supports diaspora 😮 That website used to provide stats only for diaspora-protocol networks.
@jerry Sounds good - like a modern philosophy that sells well. I loved it when Mr Durov (Telegram, VK) explained (in attractive words) the significance of having no things, properties, etc, to be a burden, to limit oneself, how "things you have will in the end have you" . Then it leaked out he has a very expensive property here, and one there, and spends lots of money just to prove he can. Things he said still *sound* good. I smile and think about them every time I mow my lawn :)
Since Mastodon has at least 5 instances dedicated to #writing, am sharing the info: #Iceland Writers Retreat, annual event for #writers, grants a #scholarship award (possibly with full funding), applications accepted till October 31: http://www.icelandwritersretreat.com/not-publish-iceland-writers-retreat-alumni-award-applications-now-accepted-2-2
Good luck!
@wakest 😅
Psst. Did you see it? @hypolite leaked an inside that #Friendica has just added #activitypub (https://friendica.mrpetovan.com/display/735a2029-145b-c518-f216-3d7966882318) (cc @drequivalent)
@make Thank you! I'll use some of those numbers :)
@kris No, diaspora communicates over its own diaspora protocol (implemented also by Friendica, Hubzilla, GangGo and Socialhome projects). So it's currently connected to 4 other networks. Its userbase stats: https://the-federation.info/diaspora
