For the sake of lilacs blooming in the gardens and pistachio ice-cream that is best when eaten outdoors, this account is gone on a spring vacation. ๐ช
@MangoMonster Thank you for the link. I hope one day @piratpartiet Twitter followers will join them in Mastodon, and their crossposter will work from here to there :)
@xuv Interesting read about centralization versus federation. Although peer-to-peer concept is completely ignored, while it would be the most friendly option for non-tech user (install the app on your computer -> connect), at the same time avoiding the shortcomings of federation.
@xrevan86 Back in the olden days we could just ... disagree about something, without having to erase the other person from existence on your server or whatever (crazy, I know!)
Speaking of #design and #ux. Some say the new #Facebook redesign quite reminds current #Vkontakte. VK was born by copying Facebook idea and refining it: simple interface, easy to find settings, non-algorithmic feed, payments (as of lately). Now, perhaps, Facebook people copy certain solutions they liked in VK.
Many users in my timeline voiced concerns over Librem deactivating abuse reports. Only one or two complained about rejecting non-public messages. Logically, I understand the decision to label Mastodon a place for public speech only. Saying it's private is a bit of an overstatement.
Yet somehow, that makes me feel a stranger who needs to whisper in one's ear in a place where everyone talks through a loudspeaker. ๐คจ
#framasoft is an organisation that works on education, development, funding and hosting of #freesoftware.
For their hosting they have their own software stack, and branded them as frama...
For every service they offer, they explain what software they have used to do so. They do this also when they changed parts of the code and when they have their own branding.
Sometimes they also help to fund the development as they did for #peertube.
@lafnlab The only issue with OStatus is there're no limited view messages, so everything will have to be public. ActivityPub, diaspora protocol and Zot protocol are somewhat better in this respect :)
@robertwgehl You make me want to read about pick-up "social control" theories. Up to now I thought all they had were some cliche techniques that are often counterproductive. There're a number of books about social engineers well-known due to their success. I wonder if the pick-up artists community has any such "history"? Please, let me know if you come across anything worth reading :)
@yarmo It's just one way of attracting new users to a community they feel related to. Aside from that, theoretically, it might make it easier for people who wish to meet like-minded fellows and do things together IRL to find each other.
@robertwgehl Interesting. I wonder how much in our current perception of this term is due to etimology, and how much due to contextual meaning. I've come across the term "social engineer" used in a translation of Stalin's quote which in reality was "The writer is the engineer of the human soul. The production of souls is more important than the production of tanks... And therefore I raise my glass to you, writers, the (social) engineers of the human soul."
I've been doing it all on my own for quite a while, it's hard to do everything yourself, and there are probably domain experts out there that know way more than I do about specific platforms!
