    Speaking of #crystal-lang, it requires an already existing installation to compile itself, so that is not going on the #Orange_Pi. As far as I can see, there’s not a public release in AArch64 elf format to use for compilation.

    I’m not sure whether the municipality or someone in the neighborhood hired them, but there was a bad cover band doing old Earth Wind and Fire songs tonight.

    If you use #invidious, be aware that they have received a legal threat from #youtube. FYI, the source code is at https://github.com/iv-org/invidious and at https://gitea.invidious.io/iv-org

    I have long suspected that the PeerTube model was better. Make “the main show” independently hosted content, and then if you want, you can bridge to youtube as a side show. I think it is and was totally predictable that lawyer letters would eventually come to Invidious. If you’re not dependent upon accessing videos from YT, you can shut that down if necessary without losing the reason your video site exists.

    Thor from #Norway was talking about his tight financial situation and the costs of operating his #Mastodon instance being too high for him. Someone suggested that he make his members aware of the situation. There's no guarantee they'll fund it, but they may.

    I know he's uncomfortable with #e-begging, but it doesn't have to be #Wikipedia level annoying, just enough to let them know the situation and the option to keep it going via member support.

    I finally burned a couple of GNU+Linux installer ISOs to DVD-R, so now I can send S her box (includes flash drive with Ventoy and about five ISOs, a !RasPi Zero 2 kit, a keyboard and mouse for it, and those two DVDs ... #Fedora and #PCLinuxOS; I downloaded #Ubuntu, but it is bigger than the DVD's capacity).

    Kenny switched from AT&T DSL to Verizon Wireless. He says he's getting steady speeds about 25X whst he got with DSL. I told him about T-Mobile's version being oversold and underbuilt. He says VZW recently rolled this out to his market, so he'll have to keep watch.

    #F-Droid has SlimSocial for #Facebook and SlimSocial for #Twitter.

    I had not heard of #SlimSocial at all. But since I closed my Facebook account years ago and rarely log into my Twitter account, I don't need them.

    @simsa04 #sonOne tells me that #GS1 is taking one college class and that he's got a history of walking into relatively decent paying jobs even without training.

    He suggests that #GS2 may need a psychiatric evaluation for something like ADHD. But he's living with his grandmother, so there's no one to make sure it happens.

    Oldest grandson #GS1 is too old for federal / state youth job training programs. I think his brother #GS2 has about a year left.

    The younger boy works at a gas station minimart and is not motivated to do anything to change that.
