That seems like instance admins are too powerful. This is just a guess, but each community probably has a home instance. That instance's admin could then ban the community or ban people from joining / interacting with that community, even if they're on another instance.
Likely the issue comes from everyone (users and communities) piling onto lemmy.ml.
That said, it has been a frequent complaint that #Fediverse admins have too much power. Networks like #Nostr attempt to remove or dilute such power.
This was a few years ago, but it makes me wonder whether this recruiting tactic also increased the number of sexual harassment cases. Assuming, of course, that #Kazakhstan bans such behavior.
@clacke I've honestly never seen 'biannual' except in situations where it was clear they meant to say / write 'biennial'. I do not think it is commonly used.
But I can agree that it could be used for both meanings.
@clacke I know that semiannual is once every half year, so if I think of that, then I can figure out that biennial is once every two years. But I agree. There should be no need for such gymnastics.
Site claims (I have not tried to confirm) that #BankOfAmerica voluntarily turned over customer transactions to the #FBI without a warrant. They were investigating the 2021-Jan-06 insurrection.
I'm not in favor of banks (which should be considered fiduciaries for their customers) turning over customer information except in very strictly defined circumstances, even though I am one who would have grabbed a gun and gone to defend the nation against its "foes foreign and domestic" that were attempting to overthrow the government.
In this case, a subpoena should have been easy to get if they narrowed the scope, so #BofA (and other banks) should have required it.
@simsa04 No. When I started listening to music that I chose instead of my parents choosing, the Beatles were already broken up, so I jadn't actively listened until high school. The Rolling Stones did https://youtu.be/JGaBlygm0UY which caused me to seek them out on my own.
