My niece #LG used to obsess over this song and this singer. Of course, she was 10-12 at the time. The day came when she no longer cared about him, and I was sure his career was over.
But when I was in New York in 2021-2022, there was a JB song that one of the hotels played in its lobby and elevators about once every 90 minutes.
@clacke I was here in 2009, so it was still early days, but apparently not as early as it felt. For example, the former Twitter employee who created some of the standards that Identica and StatusNet used (including at least one that Mastodon still uses) was unknown to me. I remember hearing about #Twitter plans to federate with #Identica, but I was not aware that they had sent at least one message across networks before deciding to go toward the walled garden model.
Amazingly, she's so thankful that I'm willing to ship her this starter kit that costs less than $100 (and used to cost less than $50). To me, it is a little bit of help getting away from $EMPLOYER before they decide to push her away.
I am coming to the point where I'm less willing to provide the things needed to start on a project. I am much more willing to assist someone that is already working on accomplishing something.
Just as an example, today for the third time since the collision, I was crossing that same intersection and someone who planned on running the light had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting me. I was walking, but if you count the two bags of groceries I was carrying, I'm probably over 200lb. The cars varied from midsized to SUVs, any of which could easily have killed me.

lnxw48a1My mom and my nephew were both in car accidents within a two day period. Mom has some soreness from the seat belt and airbag, and her vehicle is probably going to be scrapped. #lazyNephew had no injuries and his pregnant girlfriend had a two-day hospitalization. Their vehicle requires some repairs, but it should be fixable.
The other party in Mom's accident, the one that ran a red light to turn at the poorly designed intersection, is claiming an injury. And of course, my mom was not using either one of her dashcams that her children have paid for.
One of my brothers says that he thinks it is time for her to give up driving anyway, but living in a place that is not pedestrian friendly (and her being mobility impaired anyway), she won't voluntarily give up driving.
Anyway, I do have a currently unused #RasPi 0 W starter kit here, but I just went ahead and ordered one, so she'd get something still sealed in its box.
She and I both worked in #AL recently, but her locations were West of the main office, while mine were North and East of the main office. After she went home, I covered her old locations one day, and I covered some locations near the #MS state line for a few days.
Which is a long way of saying that we only saw each other briefly.

lnxw48a1S, who is trying to transition outside of $EMPLOYER to something local to her area of the country, is taking a course to learn how to administer Microsoft's Azure cloud platform. She said the course includes access to MSFT's own servers, so she can get some hands-on experience.
I had told her that the big cloud vendors have zero-price accounts that have access to certain specific services, and that she should sign up. The $EMPLOYER provided Microsoft training account is mostly videos of talking heads telling you about it, with many quick demonstrations included, but almost no actual interaction with Azure itself.
(Which makes sense. The accounts we're using are employer-provided, so if we got real access, any charges would be the organization's responsibility.)
Anyway, I told her that I thought I had a Raspberry Pi Zero W starter kit laying around unused, and that I'd send it if I find it. This is because we also discussed her learning a little about Linux system administration.
@fu I think sometimes we forget that "ignorance of the law is no excuse" is because we were able to routinely carry a summation of most relevant laws for our general situations in our heads.
Additionally, many of the laws that affected individuals were being made at the state or local levels, where they could also better affect what laws passed or got revoked.
