@theru But it doesn't have a button like the 4 does. I guess you need that for the static password (?).

@theru I guess the YubiKey 4 would be the best one. Nano looks too small, I would lose it :-)

@theru So which one would you recommend for gpg stuff? And possibly a static password (for my password manager). And should work well with Linux :-)

@theru Last time I checked "Buster" was set for mid-2019, so only one year. But you never know for sure with Debian :-)

@theru For gpg it would be pretty nice. I used to use a "smart card", but I gave it up as it was quite inconvenient. It required a separate reader which also had to be carried around...

Apparently @aral recently switched to GNU Linux, that's awesome :-) https://ar.al/2018/07/16/changes/

      Changes
My current setup: work in progress. For the last 12 years, my main development machine has been a Mac. As of last week, it’s a Dell XPS 13 running Pop!_OS 18.04. From the day the first iPhone was released, my main phone has been an iPhone. As of this week, it will be a Samsung S9+ running LineageOS. (I had it running LineageOS last week but there was an issue with the camera that meant that I had to reinstall the stock surveillance-ridden Samsung ROM.

@theru Thanks! I seemed to remember there was a newer fork. I'll switch to it as soon as it's packaged in Debian stable ;-) (Seems to be in testing: https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=newsboat )

@theru Hmm, that sounds pretty useful :-) How do they work? Do they require any cloud service, or are they completely hardware based?

I've found that after having quit almost all social media (except Mastodon of course), I've been using RSS/Atom feeds a lot more to follow interesting blogs. I'm currently using Newsbeuter: https://newsbeuter.org/

@z428 I guess that's basically what the Freedombox project wanted (or still wants) to do. Although, your second option - some kind of cooperative host sharing might be more realistic short-term. But how to make sure it doesn't become too centralised, and another control point?

@z428 Regarding infrastructure, it varied. I had a virtual server at gandi, but also hosted some things on my own machine out of my living room. I never hosted my email, though :-) Just web server, Nextcloud, pump.io/StatusNet and such.

@z428 Yes, and in general we need to build solutions that are usable for all, not just those that have the technical skills to host it themselves.

@bn4t Yeah, I also liked the idea itself - but I haven't actually had any real use of it personally to be honest. Sadly, the same could be said of GPG itself these days, with the exception of Debian-stuff.

@z428 Yes, that's a good point. That's probably what most people mean by simplifying things... For me it wasn't an option, which is why is was self-hosting a lot of things before.
