@detectivehyde Tbh, I'd like to get back to low population models. Because it is easier to hold someone accountable, you're more likely to get to know them and your voice holds more weight... they are more likely to be able to follow what you want. Too large a population, and it seems to alienate a large percentage of people.

@detectivehyde Hmm. Well, there were tribal chiefs or perhaps a republic like the romans had?  Is that what you mean? I couldn't say further back than that.

@detectivehyde Because that is the system in place. A lot of it has to do with perception. If we believe that someone is qualified like if they convince us, then we will defer to them. Don't most people choose the least worst option before them in politics depending on their own beliefs/political alignment? Before this, we didn't have much of a choice... the leader of a nation was down to family lines, and they played on religion to keep it. It was ordained by god who would be king, and in some cases queen. Or it was fought by war and blood. Nobles sided with whoever they thought were going to win, would grant them the privileges they wanted or whoever their conscience dictated to side with. If they chose wrong, they would most likely die unless they were powerful enough that the winning king wanted their loyalty or had ties with them. But it fell down to this. The losers were written out of history.

@misspixie345 You want to know what is happening to SLC? I think I get it now. Well, SLC was moved to a docker which seems to have contributed to its slowness when it had a dedicated server before. But it has been getting slower over time. There is a plan to eventually migrate SLC to a pleroma server when it is GS/qvitter right now. That hasn't happened yet due to the issues SPC has had with migrating over. I hope this helps a little.

@detectivehyde Is it not human nature? You have good and bad leaders, but when we join together we usually defer to someone. Usually the one that looks as though they know what they are doing or have the experience. But they can be knocked off that spot. Lots of political squabbles ended that way.

But think about it. When you are the individual, you only have yourself to lead you. When you have parents and you are a little child, you defer to them and put your trust in them to know what to do because you don't know. As you get older and experienced, and have a family of your own... your children begin to defer to you. Men are usually the providers and protectors, and so they would be deferred to more... but women are usually more nurturers and so men defer to them in that role when they need the comfort. Hence both sides influence each other. You get a community... and there needs to be someone leading to get shit done. You look to the ones that step into that role, and maybe you want them out when they prove incompetent although that is harder to do now.

@augustus Oh boy, do we squabble about this!
But it is interesting how there is a section of feminism for women who are higher in the class chain. They squabble about this. Make more of an issue about gender holding them back. But do they not have the privilege through class to do this? They want the top jobs, but they already have resources from elsewhere. What chance does a woman in the lower classes have at being a CEO or manager? Maybe if she is smart about how she conducts herself, manages to get top grades and get a good education at uni but that will likely put her far into debt. Very few women will manage this, and be able to have the skills to manage a company with all the stress to go with it. Power to the women who can accomplish this tho. But again, it will always be the few that make it to the top... and this fight benefits them more than the average woman. The same applies to men.

I don't think the US is a patriarchy any more... I think it is an oligarchy. The very few at the top gain the privileges... but at the expense of other things in their life. Like good mental health because they will be stressed out so much. It's not the life I would want.

@detectivehyde For a number of reasons... they tow the narrative line, they have the right connections and income/job. Maybe familial relations which works for royalty here. A lot of it comes down to who you associate yourself with... and there has been all sorts of divisions in the past along upper and lower class lines.
It's interesting that when class is not your obstacle, you can more easily focus on your gender or race holding you back...

It is funny how gender and race distract away from class and power when it comes to privilege. It's also funny how there is a trend amongst people in the media that are higher up in class that complain about gender or race, and sideline class.

I really don't get this whole all men benefit from the patriarchy argument.

@rye Then you could always alternate! Squid one time, then something else next, maybe another squid depending on how you want to alternate things, and so forth.

@dtluna Nope. I saw the changes on pleroma and just missed how simple qvitter is. It is just slow here... sigh.
