Yeah, I've never really understood these types that will complain when people respond to their public posts... and it's not just that someone said what they didn't like, they complain about the whole concept like they don't want anyone near their mentions except those they approve. I don't know how to explain it.

On twitter, the globalised public timeline stopped being a thing... but people still found each other through searches and people they either followed or searched. I often found arguments through people I followed so it didn't stop it. I don't think making the account private helped people in those moments where people had already seen a publicly made post. Just added to it.

@wowaname I think there are better ways to handle troll replies. Like I said, before these changes it felt more inviting and open... like a community where we were able to have all sorts of conversations. Trolls will always come and go, people that want to stir shit, people that you won't get along with because personalities and values clash. It had an appeal before that I fear eroding through anti-features.

I didn't think it would be possible to be more anti-social than me, but they've managed it with private/unlisted posts and kicking up a fuss when people respond to posts they make. You know, using a social media platform as it is intended to be used with its features.

What I really liked about fedi before mastodon came in is that all posts were public. It felt more inviting than closed off.

One thing I want to learn is what a healthy boundary is for any relationships, and one that doesn't stem from insecurity. It's hard to know where to draw the line when I haven't been taught this. I don't want to be unfair or too restrictive, but I also don't want to be a push over and walked all over. I also want to be worthy of respect.

It'll be nice to learn about different techniques and to understand where my insecurities stem from, I will admit.

When you think about it, in the past women spent the majority of their adult life trying to get pregnant, being pregnant and nursing infants. It makes sense to seek out a man who can protect and provide while she is at her most vulnerable.
