@sourcookie it was also like 30 years ago in Malibu, so I imagine the culture might have been a bit different than it is now

@fluffy @djsundog yea, he was there in the late 80's, so obviously way before the current tech culture. plus he was staying with some rich relatives of mine so it was in Malibu/Hollywood and not right in LA or SF

growing up, my dad would talk about the time he spent in California, and how (boomer voice) "everyone in California follows the leisure ethic!" He said that meant that they only worked as hard as they had to in order to have enough time & money to go have fun. he saw this as a bad thing.
