#HackOnMDN day 2 has kicked off with lightning talks. First we heard from Dennis Schubert about http://WebCompat.com and how Smooshgate all started with this bug report about a weather website: https://webcompat.com/issues/15121 https://toot.cafe/media/7pqlP6GDItMayDpGR6E

Another enjoyable #MastodonLDN meetup! As well as Mastodon, discussions covered many related open web projects such as PeerTube, Searx, Open Media Network (OMN) and more. Sounds like the focus for the next one will be on the standards and motivations behind some of these projects. Thanks again @hamishcampbell and @david_ross for organising, and @mozilla for hosting! #meetup #london

Around the world, a handful of visionaries are plotting an alternative online future. Is it really possible to remake the internet in a way that’s egalitarian, decentralised and free of snooping?

Trying out the anti- fingerprinting feature in Firefox Nightly. If you'd like to test it out too, visit about:config and enable "privacy.resistFingerprinting".

You'll start seeing prompts like this!

"Trends in digital tech for 2018" by the always-enlightening Peter Gasston.

Mentions the "Closing Social" trend, which those of us here may find particularly relevant: "Sharing on Facebook has been declining for a couple of years".

"What if Uber drivers set up their own platform, or if a city’s residents controlled their own version of Airbnb?"

Think some of you Mastodonners might be interested in this book (I've purchased but hasn't arrived yet). Firstly, it's nice to see a positive book about the future of tech. Secondly, seems like decentralisation/cooperation is a big theme.
