@gemlog Yeah, I feel I'm living life in reverse, consciously becoming less dependent on tech giants and retreating from the panopticon.

Went to a cafe, ordered a novel concoction of a coldbrew (coffee) plus lime. It's refreshing and surprisingly tasty. I used to have Coca-Cola and lime, cold coffee with lime isn't that much different, just without carbonation, caramel colour and HFCS.

@gemlog My friend set her wishlist on Amazon. For years, I have printed my friends' lists to take to local independent CD stores and bookstores. It's a little more expensive for me, but I like supporting local independent stores. Amazon removed the functionality earlier this year.

Yes, Amazon did remove the "Buying this elsewhere?" link from wishlists. I suppose I should feel glad that it's not my ignorance at fault, but I don't know how anonymous giftgivers keep track of who's purchased what for a recipient without it. I'll go ask Amazon what sekrit workarounds there are for users, as removal of this functionality is an inconvenience.

Having seen a friend's wishlist on Amazon, I bought a gift at an independent local store. There used to be a 'buying this elsewhere' link, but I can't find it. Earlier today I bought a gift for her (from same indie store) that LATER was marked on her wishlist as purchased. I don't want some poor soul to suffer what I did. Did Amazon remove the 'buying this elsewhere' link from the item page or the wishlist? Need direction or confirmation.

tfw you check a pal's wishlist 40 minutes before you buy her gift, return home 4 hours later, find that the 'unpurchased' filter doesn't have the gift anymore, and the 'purchased' filter does, and not by your volition.

@deejoe no worries. Paid helpdesk people often skim or ignore the procedures I post in email. Nowhere near frustrating when I'm shouting into the ether, as it were. @0xdustin@cybre.space It's so weird to me in scripted events and in real life, that people in the business of receiving intel from hacks and surveillance don't ever consider they themselves could be hacked and surveilled. Except Elliott's use of duct tape on his computer's camera (I use that trick too!).

I stopped watching "Mr. Robot" after Season 2. Does the FBI agent played by Mammie Gummer get her conversations with Alexa forwarded to Dark Army/F Society/E corp or Elliott?

It feels luxurious to have active, civil conversations on a level social platform, originating from our own interests and passions, even though I've been active on Masto for over a year.
