@joaopinheiro I suspended some letter-writing while I was occupied with changing nations of residence. Other penfriends I have kept up with. One friend resumed writing after a year's absence, limiting her correspondents to three. I have pen pal letters from 2018 I haven't yet opened.
@JordiGH I am disheartened by the unfulfilled promise of proportional representation but I am gleeful at the prospect of walking not driving to my polling station.
@xmanmonk Asking permission to DM you my new address. You have a choice of: US address (max. 5 days delay b4 pickup) CAN address (costs more, 0 day delay, but prob. 3-6 days longer)
Shuffling off to yonder library. If you have spooky fun #horror#reading suggestions in fiction, throw them here! Recently I've enjoyed Grady Hendrix, Edgar Cantero and Thomas Ligotti. I have read everything from Shirley Jackson, and predictably the 19th-century horror novels endlessly remade and paid tribute to by motion pictures.
Having had to spend most of my day hovering over but not quite touching the 49th parallel yesterday for importation (PHASE THREE of SIX!), I salvaged some #goodthings: - letter from Texas penfriend who took a year off to read 300+ books - friendly service at Japanese restaurant (we were the only table) - University Challenge - found geocache - friendly service at Pharmasave - completed health insurance card application - (US) #NationalPunctationDay 24 Sept 2019
Today, to honour my brother on the fifth anniversary of his death, I went to Mt. Fuji restaurant and spoke mostly #Nihongo. The hostess was pleasantly surprised, although I am sure my attempt was weak and mangled, she understood and responded appropriately.
@drtelnet Hey wow, qwant sniffed my country and language! Good to have some alternatives. I used #searx but it fell into reCaptcha errors when retrieving from #Google
What is the least US-centric #searchEngine alternative to #Google? When I type my city name and province #DuckDuckGo returns US locations at the top of the result set: that doesn't help. #StartPage is not better than DuckDuckGo in this regard.
1. The unilingual one from Missouri chooses to listen to the French-language radio channel because the music is better. 2. The teen received more extensive French-language instruction (NOT immersion) in Washington State. He expected near-fluency levels at his present high school. 3. Same teen outscored his Canada Law 12 class on first lesson day pretest. This is not an accelerated learning teen btw.
In a couple days the world is going to be full of people taking about the first day of Autumn. Please do me a favor and correct this widespread relabeling of our seasons.
