@natecull Yeah, I could do without everything in the world trying to store my data in the cloud. It wouldn't be the first time Mozilla's done something sleazy (they tried ads in Firefox once), but they typically correct for this when they realize they've made a mistake. Problem is, without Firefox I don't know what other browser to use. Chrome can die in a fire, Opera and Vivaldi are closed source, and everything else is too primitive to get you far on the modern Web.
Maybe I should just use Lynx for everything :P

@natecull You're right, I can't be sure. The wording does make me nervous. I tend to want to think the best of Mozilla, but there's no real guarantee that they're not up to something shady. Might be worth taking a screenshot with Wireshark in the background to see what's going on. Or just sticking to the OS's screeshot tool.

A sublime shot from "Sir Henry at Rawlinson End" (1980). The washed-out film gives the whole movie a sense that it's nowhere — no sky, no grass, just hanging in space in its own bubble of weird. https://mulligrubs.me/photos/stjohn/image/cfcf118fcd9a1a3961e87961429cb99c

@wxcafe Really! I've always just heard "monkey wrench". I have heard "allen key", though, for those hexagonal/octagonal screwdriver things.

Home of the Golden Bears, apparently. It just looks haunted af to me.

@Concerned_Catgirl I'm not sure if you're referring to a particular group, but many atheists say that there isn't any evidence that god/s exist, so it's not rational to believe in the supernatural. It's a neutral position rather than an actual claim. There's no evidence the tooth fairy exists either, but you don't see people saying, "Those anti-fairy-ists are making just as much of a claim as the fairy-ists, and neither side has conclusive proof, so I'm on the fence about whether the tooth fairy exists." My bum would get very sore from sitting on the fence about everything that can't be proven :P

It's very telling that "reach" is a reason for marketers and promoters. It's not a reason for normal people to use Facebook or Twitter — in fact it makes it clearer that normal people are only there to be sold to. You're volunteering to be shown ads.

How do you mean? There was that freak storm that split the humans from their gangers, but if that was the only problem then it would be fine to keep using gangers to mine acid, who cares. Instead we got two episodes about how the Flesh feel pain and about how they're conscious of being created and destroyed (even before the storm that separates them from their originals), and about how they should never be abused again in the future.
If I'm being honest, though, I was more miffed that this came at the end of a two-part story that was just so dull. I'm not even sure the story needed one episode to be told, let alone two, and then to suddenly invalidate the two episodes I had to strap myself to the sofa to get through… that really chaps my hide.

@ajroach42 Ah, that would be fair. Man, if I could get away with that on the Web, I absolutely would. It's amazing how much breaks if you so much as turn of JS, though.
-
@bouncinglime Seriously! I had no idea. That's pretty nifty — I'd love to see an open social network client that supports a bunch of different kinds of accounts.
-
@ajroach42 Woah there cowboy, inlining images is the first step to serving up ads :P
Obviously that's unlikely to happen in gopherspace, but that's how it happened to the Web in the 90s. Remember those lovely banner ads where you had to try and click the monkey? Good times.

I've been trying to get a good shot of this sucker for a *year* now, but there's that fence in the way. Even in this shot there's that telegraph pole, but I doubt I'll ever get a clearer view.
