@phessler oooh, hadn't seen the doodle stuff, that's pretty neat. The other cosmetic stuff never grabbed me as I do 90% of my interaction via Tusky. Might be worth polling users about it.

I'm a bit torn on local-only. I like it in principle but as a smaller instance I think it might be more detrimental than helpful.

@phessler what was it about glitch that appealed most? I've considered making the switch but I'm not convinced yet.

@FiXato given the original recipe name was "Coca Cola Salad" it's kind of the main non-negotiable ingredient.

I could just make a cheesecake and be done with it if I wanted to, but this concept has me intrigued.

@FiXato didn't see cherry as an option, not a really common flavour so I went with the only red one. Cherry Cola certainly isn't a thing that you ever see around here.

Might try some other colour/flavour combinations though, there's got to be something that tastes OK but doesn't look like cat vomit.

A variation I wanted to try. Raspberry jelly instead of orange to improve the colour, almond flakes and meal to make a more distinct base, and a few era-appropriate additions like whipped cream from a can and glace cherries.

It didn't separate like I hoped and combined poorly, maybe due to the silicon mould, since I didn't have a proper jelly mould and wanted a ring.

Looks better but the annoying part is the orange one tasted a lot better.

@ben god I thought I was crazy for thinking this. I loathe Discourse but since everyone used the damn thing I assumed I was missing something.

@daedalus I'm in pretty much the same situation. I figure I could probably scavenge up a small brewery and ingratiate myself with the local warlords they way.

@twylo I know, I'm kinda responsible for scrapping some old gear myself. I couldn't save it all.

I have a good selection of DEC Alpha history in storage, because I had to pick my battles. If I just wanted to run VMS I could spin it up on a DS10 - but a MicroVAX would have been sweet to have too. 😀

This morning I woke up to howling winds, sideways rain and hail hammering the roof. An hour or so later, the sun is out and ducks are playing in the water that got dumped on us. I'm now going to get a coffee and I'm taking every item of clothing I own with me, just in case.

I made a batch of grapefruit and ginger marmalade but HOLY HELL it's so bitter. I thought I'd got the balance OK while cooking it, but tasting it for real it's not great. It may mellow out as it ages though, so I think these jars are going into a cupboard for 6 months.

@koosli will do a little stocktake when I get home (on Philip Island all weekend) and see what's there.

I have one that's "restored", and is clean and neat and exactly as it came from the factory, and one that's been modded and played with, and messed around with. The pristine one is the one I'm inclined to keep, but I need to make a really critical assessment of what shape the other one's in and whether I'm prepared to hand it over as a working machine.

@koosli I'm not sure it'll depend on which one, there's a major difference in condition. I've also never considered selling one for even a second until now heh.
