I disagree with a lot of things y'all have said, but I don't think it's worth arguing about.

Dream journal from last night/today: as a result of the housing crisis, a very large encampment in a big park - slapdash assemblage of chain-link fence, temp housing, tents, water connections for roller toilets and washing, basic food service out of storage containers, some small livestock.

Update: took meds and went and got groceries but the sickness still upon me must slep

@Cathymarinara @mxsiege yeah. I think when you've never tested the boundaries before, or never *wanted* to test the boundaries, it's way more intimidating.

Like, most people would be happy going from gender-conforming A to gender-conforming B, and the in-between is a massive obstacle.

@Cathymarinara @mxsiege I suppose I'm thinking more of how people are pre-transition - if they are already familiar with experimenting/playing with gender expression. I don't think it's the biggest or most important divide, though.

@ItsJenNotGabby it is hard to tell from this photo but she is actually a skinny little thing, maybe 10 pounds, I constantly worry she is too thin but the vet says she's fine.

@mxsiege (not that there's anything wrong with that, it's great that transition is increasingly accessible - but although being GNC can make things harder in everyday life it does make transition less jarring, I think. Sometimes I wonder if there is a gulf between GNC and non-GNC trans ppl like between cis and trans queers)

@mxsiege including gender identity without gender expression would essentially allow discrimination to go on just as before! If you don't "pass" well enough, etc.

My theory is that as sexual orientation and gender identity become increasingly differentiated, there are greater numbers of trans people who just do not like being GNC even in their assigned gender. And it's real hard to go from one to the other with no GNC at any point in between.

(In the morning, my roommate makes coffee. If I haven't woken up and fed the cat yet, she gives her a spoonful of half-and-half in a little bowl. Wasabi knows that she does not get cream if she has already been fed. But she often asks anyway, so polite, with her little paw.)

The process of Wasabi begging my roommate for cream:

1. The watchful gaze
2. The expectant pose (note 1 slightly raised front paw)
3. She gets a drop of cream
4. Quiet betrayal as she realizes there won't be any more
