And lest you think it's all old hat, new Burgess Shale sites and fossils are still being discovered—e. g. this was just in September https://scitechdaily.com/frightening-500-million-year-old-predator-unveils-the-rise-of-scorpions-and-spiders/

(Currently only streaming in Canada but I'm sure there's Ways around it.)

I would really love to have such a thing for Twitter, but there's zero chance of that, so…yeah
(I could make a list in Twitter but 1. there's no easy way to get that data AFAIK and 2. I'd have to keep it updated myself and I can't be bothered to keep track of who unfollows me. If anyone has any ideas hmu)

random #mastodev idea: a "mutuals" filter for home timeline. or its own timeline.
idk if anyone's suggested it yet it just came to mind 🐘

Are there #YVR or #FraserValley meetups for #Mastodon #Fediverse people? I want to talk to fediverse people IRL but I have to limit it to locals because the line between giddiness and smugness of this returnee could be fuzzy to non-BC folk.
I do have long-term friends but they're either sick or full with family and work commitments. I don't want to hear "you didn't know this? Where have you BEEN?" from them.In conversation from mastodon.sdf.org permalink Repeated by nev -

Wasabi, lying on my chest purring is, surprisingly, not going to make me get up and feed you sooner

Jamie Margolin: "Many people pin the start of the climate crisis to the Industrial Revolution, when we started digging for coal, mining fossil fuels out of the ground and burning them at a large scale. It actually started long before that." http://web.archive.org/web/20190926030958/https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/20/opinion/climate-strike.html

@modgethanc @Canageek that's a good idea!
Usually ppl just lock their frame, which doesn't keep the bike from falling over

@Canageek in Toronto, the publicly installed things you lock your bike to look like this: https://www.toronto.ca/services-payments/streets-parking-transportation/cycling-in-toronto/bicycle-parking/history-of-torontos-bike-ring/
You are supposed to lock your bike to the part of the post inside of the ring. Ideally, the seat tube, if the frame allows for it. https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bicycle_Frame_Diagram-en.svg This is more secure and keeps the bike from falling over.
Many people lock their bike to the ring instead, which I find very annoying because their bikes fall over and make it hard for me to lock my bike properly.
That's it

Dear Torontonians: is life a little too hard, do you sometimes feel like you are being punished for some unknown transgression, do you have unusually bad luck
Try locking your bike to the Φ post instead of the ring! You may be surprised what a difference it makes!! #bikeTO

#Arachtober day 25: I don't think I've done a pirate spider so far! Spiders in this family, Mimetidae, specialize in eating other spiders, plucking at webs to lure out the occupants. I think this one is probably Mimetus puritanus. Only a few mm long in body length, found under a milkweed leaf in the garden. #DailySpiderPic
