Committees and shit are boring as hell but it means that one person can burn out and the site keeps going. That's why I joined social.coop. I highly recommend looking for instances that give the users a measure of control or at least a way to get involved.

It's like tankies or flat earthers or Linus screaming at people on the LKML. Like clearly this is filling some hole in your life, I hope you can engage with the wider world better and stop hurting yourself or the people around you. Been there, done that, hopefully done doing that. /end.

I think in general a lot of Hot Take People What Spend Too Much Time On the Internet (totally including me at times) have deep personal issues or are struggling with their lives, and get some kind of catharsis from channeling it into Discourse.

At the end of the day I'm saving my ire for, like, people who make policy or shape mainstream media or have the power to do more than just shutting down one website.

Like yes, the take is terrible, but this is not like some smug public intellectual writing an op-ed. I feel like this person is hurt and lashing out in an inappropriate but...understandable/predictable way. So I hope they can get some rest.
