@zalandocalrissian during the early century we did have.. we had one of largest community meshes in the UK.. after London/Manchester .

The tech we used was originally based on NYC pebble Linux, then we migrated to olsrd on openwrt after meeting freifunk developers at the wireless networking for the developing world book sprint in 2006 at Limehouse London.

I loved the way olsrd built networks without hierarchy.. as a network engineer.. the protocol was fascinating.
