so i think the forkoff is happening, right? but what are the goals, how is it being run, and what structure does it plan to use to coordinate things? is there a central webpage or something i can pop into whenever i'm curious about the project or want to submit ideas?

@hoodie if the forkoff goes anywhere, maybe it might be a good idea to keep in mind in case the devs get bored/run out of better ideas

it'd be cool if the forkoff had like...a repository of ideas to keep track of what people want that current mastodon doesn't have and won't implement

hell, could even be cool to have an account-wide toggle that makes ALL of your posts temporarily/permanently unboostable. though i bet that'd be a headache to retroactively implement, and i have no idea how well it'd federate

would it be a good idea to have like, posts that you can change the privacy of on the fly/posts that you can flag as no longer being able to be boosted?

i'm seeing my posts going around still from yesterday, and even though i don't mind being anxious about someone starting a debate when i'm not in the mood today, part of me wishes for a feature that would allow me to temporarily prevent additional exposure/spread of my posts while i'm in the mood for a break

the usual person i get elementary from didn't have the 1080p version yet despite it being a whole day and a half since the episode aired. usually it's up the morning after.

tried the 720p version and...looked pretty bad.

so now instead of a relatively small (~500mb) HEVC file i'm downloading a 4.1gb 1080p tvrip.

companies also use sales to entice customers with "low prices/bargains" because everyone likes to feel like they got a deal, and everyone likes to spend as little money as possible on something they already want/need.

truth is, sales let companies get rid of unpopular or defective stock, advertise their brand, and even get you to buy more impulse purchases based on "i don't know if i'll ever need this but it may not ever be this cheap again"

wishlists and recommended items lists and all that other stuff just try to get you to buy things whether you need them or not. they're not to remind you of things you need so much as pressuring you into making a sale.

websites develop algorithms to figure out what you'd like only so you're more likely to impulse purchase something they show you.

it's funny how customers think that all the "features" added to digital storefronts are for them, when really those features are put there for whoever owns the shop.

i mean, who's the one trying to get who to buy things? and is selling something to someone a selfish act or not? they're trying to push sales on you, not make your shopping experience "more comfortable" for you...

there's this one movie i saw as a kid where some boring guy got put in a coma, and throughout the coma he had a dream where he had to stop a monkey from hijacking his mind and waking up in his body. they end up doing a body swap, chasing each other irl, and eventually being put back in the right bodies i think??

extremely bad, extremely low budget, completely forgettable movies are great when you watch them while sick and then remember them as though they were fever dreams
