i wish people would stop trying to make all their garbage software proprietary and instead just open up SDKs to everyone willing to build FOSS so i can get one single program that'll work with any tech and have the same features as long as the hardware supports them

and y'know, have support for things that aren't windows

i'd be halfway tempted to swap back to the old motherboard, especially considering i forgot about the OC button because it's never mentioned anywhere, and that might be what i needed to toggle to get the ram working properly.

but i'm not 100% that that'll fix the problems nor do i really want to reinstall windows again to install drivers that may or may not compromise stability as well

the fans are loud. always. when i'm trying to sleep, when i'm trying to just relax in my room. it's not a pleasant sound to always hear, because they keep spinning up and down all the time and are never constant.

i sleep with a fan on, AND star trek engine ambiance playing on youtube. and the fans from my computer still annoy me sometimes

everything about this new motherboard i got has been working perfectly, the ram is stable unlike in the old one and i don't think my computer makes the weird clicking sounds on startup anymore.

but i'm still annoyed that there's a large always-on red LED indicator light on an RGB board which means the colours will always clash, and the software is so bad that i can't figure out how to properly configure my fans (not enough fan headers in the right places either :/)

it's funny thinking back to when i was a kid and how doing things "the right way" never really mattered when there was some other way to have more fun.

like how everyone had some sort of made-up way to play with pokemon cards until we grew old enough to learn the rules and enjoy playing it "properly"

meanwhile i loved to play games like The Game of LIfe and Monopoly and all sorts of card games because i was a super boring child i guess

as a kid i would pull out the board game "mouse trap" just to set up the trap and play around with it. i don't think i've ever actually done a full playthrough of the actual game

in fact i distinctly remember being made to play it at someone's house because i insisted on getting it out to play around with the trap, and i was not impressed that i had to sit still for a board game...

@codl oh yeah, i guess i could listen to some while cleaning, but i'd also probably need to get wireless headphones or something first

everyone else is super into podcasts and i want to be into podcasts because i like the stories they tell but! they're both not enough to occupy me on their own and too much to multitask with

i wish i could actually get into podcasts properly. i listened to them sometimes in the car but it's hard for me to sit still long enough to listen to a podcast otherwise, and i haven't traveled in ages.

@cocoron podcasts are still in i'm pretty sure, and mastodon seems like the perfect place to advertise them
