i say "lately" but i'm actually very far away from them and have been for a while, oops!

i just really don't like the gta. i grew up in burlington (mom) and oakville (dad) and spent most of my teens in hamilton and the latter was the only city i really actually liked living in. mississauga and toronto are alright to visit but lately i just get this bad feeling looking around and seeing all the wealthy people shit that looms overhead, and the mcmansions in oakville and luxury condos in burlington disgust me

toronto is also kinda not great thanks to being a big city and people still praise it too highly for what it is but at least there's not that "in your face" sense of pride and gushing that you hear about new york all the time. and at least when they do a film about it they don't really shove in your face that it's being done in toronto.

it's overrated and bad. too many tv shows and movies and everything seems to center around it and i just could not give a shit about the whole new yorker pride shtick.

it's another gross, loud city overrun by rich snobs and deeply entrenched in capitalism

that's my only complaint about the new star wars and honestly i'm not even sure if it's a complaint or not. idk if it would've been better or worse without the fanservice.

was there anyone who enjoyed or at least didn't mind the fanservice in the new star wars movies?

i'm sorta on the fence about it because it allowed me to refresh my memory a bit and sorta reawaken those initial feelings i had when watching star wars as a kid, but the fanservice also kinda overshadowed a lot of the new stuff and made some of it feel too samey.

i'm glad they seem to be moving away from that, though.

@badwrongfun they did do a lot of old stuff but more in the fashion of weaning off the old and ushering in the new gradually to appease fans.

and somehow that didn't seem to work for the male entitlement brigade, but many people i've talked to seem to like the new star wars just as i do, so i guess that's what's important.

@badwrongfun even if they literally made the new movies almost exactly like the old ones, there would still be an uproar because none of these old fans seem to realise that it'll always feel better to be introduced to a new world for the first time than to revisit it, and we'll always think too highly of something when reminiscing

one of these days i need to do something of value so i can set up a patreon or something with no guilt, because even like $20/mo would be lovely to have to spend on myself, or as emergency cash if needed

or the reason why there will literally never be a half life 3

or how people were willing to throw the new star trek under the bus before they even gave it a chance (it did end up being not a good star trek but you'd think it were enterprise by the way people reacted to the first episode)

y'know, all that male entitlement shit layered with absurdly unattainably high expectations

like all the hatred for the new star wars, which i still think is more enjoyable than the old stuff because the characters actually have personalities and a bit of diversity?

well i'm certainly glad weird discourse like complaining about how new media isn't as good as the old stuff doesn't appear on the fediverse very often if at all

there was also a part of my dream where i and a bunch of friends were back in our middle school classroom for some sort of "relive middle school" day. but when we all went outside for recess, i got out last and the yard was literally empty, except for an ominous fog and the small broken form of a child asking me to come over... only to tell me i was going to die soon

i told them "yeah, i know, i can tell. i'm just trying to enjoy the time i have left"

it wasn't really all that coherent but it involved a firefly x star trek x elementary crossover where i helped sherlock holmes rescue some of the enterprise crew from a comic shop basement in a parallel universe (the firefly universe) where they were being held prisoner

and we had to smuggle them out in christmas costumes?? worf dressed up as a reindeer and i was so amused

fuck i just had such a good dream

i refuse to grow up
