@hoodie same, i had to get rid of all my equipment multiple times thanks to moving. was planning on buying rb4 but i ended up having to sell my ps4 to fix my computer and unlike TN, the local craigslist has no rb4 kits anyway.

conan exiles seems to be a rust-like survival game which i can absolutely get behind and a hat in time seems like a decent game to play on the cheap even if it seems a little lacking overall

@Karneolius and i'll bet you that most of these people asking for money would've been completely happy with just recognition of their efforts and being properly thanked and credited, rather than simply being paid.

not to mention gargron gets a lot of money for making mastodon. like, a lot of money. he can spare a little to help people out for helping him with his "personal project" y'know?

@Karneolius and it's important to note that ideas are still work, things people had to think out and figure out a way to communicate and implement. even if the actual code work may have been done by someone else, ideas are labour and worth compensating under capitalism.

why else do patents and intellectual property exist? why are certain characters and settings off limits to the public to put in their own creative works?

@Karneolius and yeah, there are some people who are getting pretty loud about it and are even going a little over the top, but i can;t quite blame them for feeling off about all this when they've yet again felt used and excluded from a community they helped to create, even in small ways

we all helped create this community; without users and contributors, gargron would've gotten nowhere. we wouldn't be talking right now

@Karneolius at first i thought that the reaction some people were having was over the top, and i thought the stuff that gargron was saying made sense. it took me a little while of really taking in this stuff and taking a good hard look at how everyone was reacting to what, to figure out that there was indeed something wrong with the whole "it's my social network" thing

@Karneolius i don't doubt that he's trying but he's honestly being extremely abrasive to anyone that disagrees with the changes he wants to make, and i don't think he has the proper experience to know when he's giving too much weight to the ideas of certain privileged groups he's more used to listening to over marginalised folks.

and i know a lot of those marginalised folks have made extensive efforts to try and offer to help with that.

@Karneolius honestly, at the very least, it would be nice to see gargron separate his own personal goals from community goals. if he wants to do whatever he pleases on mastodon.social that's fine, that's his instance.

but i don't think the overall mastodon code should be his playground for new changes that he came up with on a whim with no input from anyone else.

and really, folks on m.s should still have their wants/needs considered too. it's still a community

@Karneolius there are always going to be extremists. from my perspective, i'm only seeing people who seem genuinely concerned that gargron is treating this whole thing as a personal project or product rather than as a community space where so many people gather.

in some ways, it is his, but the moment you open up a platform for everyone else to contribute to, creating an environment of social involvement...it starts being more than that.
