@keiyakins what you're missing is that making an usable Android app out of a processing sketch is unfeasible, on top of the camera and filter not running fast enough not to lock up even a mid range phone from 2016

i don't like being called white not because i think it's offensive but literally because i'm not.

point is I'm 3rd generation Latina, my mom is dark skinned and if you think I'm as privileged as a white American you are sorely mistaken

my dad's side of the family fled some Germanic country (can't exactly remember which) before WWII. i remember grandma teaching me a couple of words of German before she passed away when i was 6. dad is the last surviving member before me, and they were financially unstable until well after he married my mom

the family from my mother's side is Arabian. they came here somewhere after WWI. (no records and grandma doesn't know much about it either). my mom is dark skinned. her side of the family was only better off financially cause my grandfather was a medic during the military dictatorship in the 60s, he died when i was born.

so like. a lot of my early selfies i actually liked were made with this app

and the creator is a trans woman too and i wouldn't be surprised if she hadn't thought of that aspect of the app and i have no idea why she took it down. she's so secretive about it it sounds like she's under an nda. it was released in 2014 and taken down in 2015 so like 3 years ago

that's one of the reasons why i want to remake it so bad, because of how important it was for me then

this is like. super important to me not only because the game boy camera is hella aesthetic but also because

when the demo for iss came out, i was nowhere near passing

but the low resolution and high contrast of the selfies were a good way of masking that. even better than apps like b612 because they went past the edge of looking like you didn't want to seem like it had a filter into the real of being so filtered it was an intentional aesthetic

remember the interstellar selfie station? it was a web/phone app that let you take pictures very similar to gameboy camera

it's been since taken down without a trace or reason as to why, and i wanna bring it back since no other phone app currently gets the aesthetic quite right like it did

i already have a prototype for the filter (it's really simple tbh) working realtime in processing but i can't into phone apps (and no processing for android doesn't help)

@revenant yeah she. released the phone app i think in 2014 and took it down just a year later

you can't even find it in shady apk sites

@revenant i wrote a very similar replacement for it in processing but i can't feasibly make it into a phone app and nobody else i know can either to help me push it forward
