    I'm just tired of constantly lowering my expectations only to not be able to reach them despite all my effort.

    @shoutcacophony I try to cut a path for marginalized people with what little privilege I have, but there's just so much in the way. It's overwhelming.

    We have a civilization-scale surviorship bias. Chelsea Manning gets a platform. How many trans women go to jail on BS charges, suffer the same abuses, and don't get a presidential commutation?

    Tim Cook runs Apple. How many gay nerds can't even get a single click on their hardware projects?

    I could go on, but you get the idea.

    Conservatives think we just start out blaming others, the system. No. We start out immersed in The American Dream™ and think if we just work hard and keep clean we'll get somewhere.

    Then the tenth year rolls by and we start to feel like a Mars rover, peering back at the landing site barely a 10 minute bipedal walk away.

    I've been busting my ass on businessy projects for ten years despite stress and isolation and all kinds of nonsense and only _just now_ am I seeing results. There's "working hard" and then there's "okay maybe something's broken with the system and it's not just me."

    No one should work as hard as I have for as long as I have with so little to show for it.

    I don't think people who proclaim "poverty is motivating!" understand just how bad things have gotten.

    @ravenna The baseline of our wrecked little civilization seems to be "crushed under the boot." No one deserves to struggle as much as pretty much everyone I know and still have to keep struggling so much. You definitely deserve more than you have.

    @ravenna same

    Music, especially electronic, is cis straight dude central. I've thought about making up a new musicsona with the most bland, ordinary white dude branding to see how it goes.

    I hope it continues. I've always liked Microsoft's stuff better, but it locked you into Windows. I couldn't take something I worked in from a MS tool and load it up on Linux. I rarely wanted to, but it felt precarious.

    This is actually the situation I'm in with music. I want to switch to Linux, but Reaper runs poorly in WINE, and most VSTs are Windows- or Mac-only.
