The thing is when we were on FB,
Birdland, IG, etc, we could say OH IT'S THE PLATFORM THAT EVIL AND JUST WANTS TO DO WHATEVER FOR PROFIT b/c in many respects it was true.
Now that we're not, it's interesting to see how the same acts bigotry, hate, and general dickheadedness still target the same people without much pushback.
People's actions tell you what they are about and who they are everyday.
Pay attention to those go silent when the conversations shift to protecting people.

So spirit animals came up, which means it's always a good time to remember that people who aren't indigenous to the Americas don't HAVE spirit animals, that there is more or less no tradition of worshipping and spiritually identifying with the spirits of animals in the European imagination, and that it is grossly cruel and inappropriate, considering the European invasion of and ongoing genocide of the American peoples, for European descended people to make claim to Indigenous spirituality

@aemon aye, the conflicts between communists and anarchists are many and storied. i'm grateful to have mostly avoided them in my experience. the fall of the USSR took the wind out of those divisions, and these political philosophies have evolved considerably since bakunin's day. sometimes i meet a tankie, a stalin apologist, but so rarely that anyone espousing such can be effectively ignored.

anarchist discourse relies on a marxist interpretation of capitalism, that of class warfare. nobody really calls themselves "marxist anarchists" because it's kind of redundant. rather, people today call themselves "anarcho-communists" or "libertarian socialists" reflecting the relationship between these ideologies.

Both are important, valid approaches to different domains. Browser tech still isn't very peerful: Dat requires DHT servers to coordinate even browser-based peers, SSB requires "pubs" that can't run in the browser, federated tech like ActivityPub requires servers, and the append-only log datastructures used by much P2P tech are wholly inappropriate for many common applications where ephemerality matters.
