No one needs to starve. No one needs to freeze. No one needs to die. There is enough for everyone. More empty homes than all the people without them, more food than grocers can even sell. The labor and the materials to end scarcity exist now. It is not a far-off dream. We can end scarcity in this life.

in room 5. Target the canine,
then deflect its attacks with your shield and strike back
right after it claws at you.

Remember to tip your instance admins. Moderating online communities is a full time job that not everyone can get right.
Most times, donations barely cover server costs.
And, if you see another instance's admin who does a great job, tip them, too.

Alright, here's the plan. The first seattle mastadon meetup is going to be at the Jupiter downtown in seattle, drinks and games my treat. We need ten folks to play killer queens; after nine people respond to this toot with the phrase "im down" (capitalization and punctuation optional) then we pick a date. Boost or forward to whoever you want to see there! 21+ because booze. If a bunch of non-drinkers decide they'd like to come, maybe we do gameworks instead.

once you imagine the blockchain as a particular implementation of a distributed ledger, you start to think about how else one might develop a distributed ledger -- without spiking energy markets or the cost of GPUs. @amphetamine linked me to an approach that used a gossip protocol that made the ledger eventually consistent, which improved latency and eliminated the energy cost of proof-of-work. it's patented so i won't link it cuz IP is bogus, but the approach was striking.

is it that we largely still have no idea what we're doing with these datastructures? that's the sense i get. i feel like, between the hype and the speculation, there's a scoping problem where we're not sure what's possible, so we don't know what that config file would look like.
experiments like faircoin are neat but it's tied to *one* co-op, which just reproduces the centralizaton problem. i want a meta-faircoin that any co-op can admin.

many coins feel like the same underlying technology but with different config files. can we get to the future where that's all it takes? casually create a coin for you and your friends, pin the value to One Food or other shared concept.
the concept of cryptocurrencies is powerful but for whatever reason we use them primarily as vehicles for speculation. it's just a ledger!

you are valid and you are enough. i know you do your best every day, even and especially when it doesn't feel like enough. you are enough.

searx is funny. it's a meta search engine, and i've been using it for a few months maybe. you stand up a server which, when you ask it stuff, sends your query to several major search engines and aggregates the results. by proxying like this, it obfuscates your search history.
the thing is, the major search engines think the searx instance is a person. they tailor results for it. it creates a noisy neighbor problem.
which is why all my results are in german now.
