Why are there so few jokes about Coq and/or LaTeX? I feel like we’re letting ourselves down.

I’m going to be in a spot with slow, unreliable internet. I’d like a way to download big-ish files without going insane.

Basically I’d like to be able to stage files someplace with a good connection (maybe a DigitalOcean VM) then trickle-sync them to a local Pi.

What would you use to do this? The first options that come to mind are #IPFS or just running rsync in an endless loop.

How would you do it?

(If you’re willing to boost for reach, I’d appreciate it.)

Despite Turing's incredible work during the war, he was later hounded for being gay and ultimately driven to suicide. The man who invented the Turing machine and the Turing test, the man whose codebreaking work saved countless lives, deserved better.

Posthumous honors can't make up for the past, but I'm glad to see them all the same.

In general we're terrible at hiring. We overvalue raw intelligence and specific technical knowledge. (Sorry, this project uses Ruby 2.5.1 and you only know Ruby 2.5.0.)

Meanwhile we undervalue the most important skills: judgement, empathy, and communication. I don't care how brilliant my colleague's code is if the person can't explain it, is a jerk, or the code never should have been written in the first place.

@strypey @david_ross Yes, this gets into the important related argument that "I've got nothing to hide."

The way I sometimes frame it is if you feel like you've got nothing to hide, that's great, but we all have friends and loved ones in marginalized groups. The way we conduct ourselves affects their privacy too.
