I assume it is since Amazon delivery workers must be paid less than USPS delivery workers.

Amazon will usually reship any lost package, but I'm not sure about the partner stores selling stuff on the Amazon platform. Even then, it isn't great to have to wait for another delivery.

Last week, I learned from a USPS delivery worker that #Amazon has a deal with USPS where they have their own delivery workers for the last mile. These workers do not have access to secure USPS mailboxes which means Amazon packages are just left in the lobby of my building.

Another good reason to ditch Amazon specifically.

I finally sat down to write exactly why I loved playing Frostpunk (2018) and why most other games in the survival city-building simulators look bleak in comparison. #VideoGames blog.mrpetovan.com/review/vide…

I believe the most probable consequence is a DMCA takedown notice if it ever happens. A full-fledged lawsuit seems unlikely but it always possible when skirting copyright laws. However even the self-admitted maintainer of SciHub hasn't been targeted with a full-on lawsuit yet (a DOJ investigation is under way), so as a partial seeder of this archive, I'm not too worried.

Yesterday I picked the smallest file in the seed needed list to share due to personal disk space issues, but I noticed today that the list has been shrinking, which is a good thing, we can get it to clear!

This is true, but I feel like there's something to identifying where the current crises come from. When you grew up the crises didn't have the same origin as the current ones. Like you said, the Cold War was raging on, and climate change wasn't a factor.

We also are aware of way more crises worldwide thanks to Internet, so there will never be any stop to the "crisis to crisis" dynamic. It is something we all need to deal with, and dispelling any illusion that it somehow will change is important not to be lured by the sirens of fascism, among others.

@Ragnarork Indeed, but the marketing budgets don't depend on their success, so the only reliable metric for publishers to attract advertisers is page views, for which there is absolutely no need for any additional tracking.

For all its invasiveness, online tracking still can’t track the intent of clicks. Do you think someone hate-reading an article with a provocative headline will be receptive to ads on that page? Abysmal click through rates are considered “normal” because we just value impressions.

I don't mind games like Spelunk having ancient traps which are functional despite the lack of a maintenance crew to keep it going. It's a game and sometimes you want to use ancient civilizations as a flavorful setting without regard for logic. Ancient arrow trap goes FWIP!

But sometimes a game tries to be more grounded, more realistic and seeing all those century olds machines just waiting for the protagonist to arrive and pull a lever and everything just works always irked me a bit. Ancient stone elevators in particular are a pet peeve of mine.

I'm a parent too and I firmly believe the "protect the children" argument is an easy way to enable wide-scoped invasive surveillance and silencing critics. But encryption backdoors and secret censorship databases only protect governments themselves, not my or anyone else's kid.

♲ @matthew_d_green@twitter.com: I’m a parent too. But for my kids’ sake I’m unwilling to help governments build the surveillance infrastructure of the future, until governments explain precisely how they will keep that infrastructure from being abused. I don’t think they have a plan. //
