These are the things you could do, but few can yield a living income (farming with a few acres? in this economy?) and most depends on their location, paving the way for yet more inequality. And there's still the problem of the unwanted present, I wouldn't want a few acres of land for myself, it would be a burden more than a gift.

A lump sum payment has the advantage of closing the reparations debate once and for all. It doesn't close the discrimination debate however, so the actual consequences of the reparations themselves have little bearing on this ongoing societal issue. Reparation is a question between the US government and descendants of slavery. Discrimination is a question between US citizens themselves, only loosely related to the slavery question. People of color are discriminated against even in countries that did not employ slaves.

I see what you mean, but I believe any kind of convoluted stipulations for reparations is both unwarranted and condescending. What would city people do with a few acres of land for 30 years? What would anyone do with a few acres of land for 30 years for that matters? It sounds more like a curse than a boon.

A straightforward one-time lump sum payment still is the best way do make reparations. Yes, some will spend it on frivolities, but it's frivolities that they may have bought anyway had their parents' and their grand-parents' work not been exploited by whites.

You're right on both counts, but you've already given way more credit to my original stupid idea than I did myself.

And for the record, I prefer WhiteNats supporting abortion than not, and for the second part, I believe it isn't a good reason not to try; although I assume you didn't meant it this way.

I just had this impossibly twisted realization that if racist mass-murderers really were about the birth rate, they would support reparations as socio-economic situation has a strong inverse correlation with fertility in post-industrial societies.

Oh they do that for military buildings, but not for civilian buildings. Orbital bombardments aren't very discriminating though.

Warhammer 40K contractor: Are you sure you want tall gothic hand-carved stone buildings again? I mean, with what happened with the Orks, then the Tyranids, then the Chaos, you'd be better off with prefabs, it'd be cheaper. Yeah, yeah, for the glory of the Emperor and all that...

Re: Uvalde shooting delayed police response.

I’m a “Defund the Police” supporter, however I believe that a reduced armed police force is necessary to handle situations like in Uvalde. The actual poor police performance in this case makes me doubt this belief.

The Uvalde shooting unfortunately showed everything that's wrong with the "thin blue line" ideology. Cops will only protect themselves and their own children because everybody else is on the wrong side of the thin blue line.

What's an economy of war without a war?

It seems to me that historically the Western economy always has been one geared for war. Efficient and ruthless, because any other would have been crushed after an actual combat. The major downside of this kind of economy is that it exhausts both its environment and its own people out of fear of being killed or annexed. This lesser of two evils can be justified when there is an actual existential military threat, but it becomes the main problem when there aren’t anymore.

American political commentators have recently asked since when the American society became so politically divided. The truth is that it’s always been divided as a nation of settlers of an inhabited land and later the major beneficiary of the slave trade. But it’s also always been under military threat since its inception, so there always was a threatening foreign enemy for Americans to rally together against. However, this stopped after the Soviet nuclear threat vanished in 1989. The United States won a race nobody was running anymore, and started recounting its own internal injuries it ignored to get there.

It isn’t for a lack of trying to cover them up though, as made-up wars have freely burgeoned in political speeches. The War on Drugs, the War on Terror, the Second Iraq War, all failed to provide a tangible external threat that could focus the public attention away from social justice, instead producing even more internal resentment as the war beast turned on itself for a lack of prey.

The September 11th, 2001 attack on the Twin Towers in New York City rekindled the national fervor against a common enemy, but it was short-lived. It quickly became apparent that this attack was meant to be a single event and that the United States weren’t structurally threatened. But at this point the US already did far greater damage to its own people (mainly freedom and privacy-wise) than any foreign power could have done themselves.

We don’t need this kind of soulless efficiency now, even less by spending people’s well-being and dwindling natural resources.
