I registered my kid for the Summer Camp program of the local YMCA, and judging by the Family Manual I was given it sounds way more bureaucratic than I was led to believe by the Village People song. -

Because this ruling seems to only target high-performing women of color? If there are as many West European or North American women excluded for the same reason I may revise this opinion but so far it doesn't look good.
Although, to be fair, it may just be plain sexism, but the lack of white women affected by this ruling is very suspicious. Caveat: this news comes from "Africa Facts Zone" so it's possible they've excluded white women from a larger ruling because they wouldn't be from an African country. -

Because it's limiting. You voluntarily restrict yourself to this cultural gender duality when you don't have to. That dad wasn't "wholesomely masculine" when he was generous, he wasn't "toxically masculine" when he was abusive, he just was generous and abusive, and there is absolutely zero need to gender either of these behaviors.
On the other hand, if he was exhibiting unwarranted tokens of virility because he was afraid of being seen as not masculine enough, this is a toxic expression of masculinity and it is important to make the connection because it is directly linked with gender expression and gender perception.
People don't wear masculine or feminine clothes, they wear pants, dresses and shirts, they don't have masculine or feminine behaviors, they have individually defined behaviors. I know these terms are short-hands, but like all short-hands they are limited. And if you can't see yourself not using these terms, the problem isn't with my original post. -

Here's my question, why do you need to say that any given person is expressing themselves in a somewhat masculine or feminine manner? What image are you trying to conjure in other people's mind? What if the person you are referring to is non-binary and rejects masculinity and femininity as a binary construct? How do you think it would make them feel if you were talking about them this way?
People aren't toxic because of the way they express their gender, people are toxic because of the way they conceive and talk about gender as a rigid binary masculine-feminine duality with no in-between or outside. This is why "masculinity" and "femininity" are toxic in themselves. -

If heat wasn't enough of a scary factor in #ClimateChange, its deadly combination with air humidity should give anyone pause. ♲ @mateosfo@twitter.com: Last week I was in a thread where someone wondered about heat, human survivability/habitability, and climate change. I've done some technical work on this specific question, so, quick thread on basics, and what to worry about.

♲ @MuseWendi@twitter.com: the "plan" for climate change in the US will be like its plan for coronavirus: let people die. the wealthy will move out of hot places just like they bounced to their second homes during the pandemic, & the poor will be left to languish under extreme temps & militarized police.

See what I said about femininity: friendica.mrpetovan.com/displa…
It isn’t about opposing masculinity and femininity where one would be inherently bad and the other inherently good even though the social perception would currently be the opposite. As sets of rigid gendered norms socially enforced through shame and violence, both are bad.
For example, I have no doubt about my own masculine gender but I’m very far from masculine ideals. I have no personal desire to work towards the current feminine ideals either, and neither are related to being a good person. -

It is toxic as well, but at least there isn't a false concept of "toxic femininity" going around. On the contrary there is the "male gaze" concept which rightfully places the onus back on men in an unfair patriarchal society. -

You may be right, but I don't like the implication that "masculinity" would somehow be neutral, and that only a part of it would somehow be toxic. I feel like it's an easy cop out for people who prize masculinity not to have to examine themselves since they can hand-wave it as not being the bad "toxic masculinity" kind.
So I'm definitely favoring accuracy over palatability, because otherwise it becomes yet another cause easy to get behind without having to do anything about it. -

Don't let yourself be fooled by the concept of "toxic masculinity". Masculinity, as a set of rigid gender norms socially enforced through shame and violence, is toxic in itself without the need to qualify it. There is no "wholesome masculinity" counterpart. -

C’est la plus basse forme d’exploitation de propriété intellectuelle, avec un concept visuel simplifié à l’extrême, un produit bon marché vendu cher à des gogos parce ça ressemble vaguement à une franchise de pop culture qu’ils aiment bien. Le côté collection est encore plus débile pour moi mais ça c’est pour toutes les collections, des cartes Pokémon aux minifigurines LEGO. -
