But right now I"m thinking I'm going to put plasma on them just because for the people just trying to get started in computers, I want them to work with the DE that will most closely match the paradigm they are most likely to come across in the work. But I feel pretty flexible with this and feel like with the extras SSD I'm adding that will be the home partition running zfs I'll have lots of room to switch between the two with relative ease.

@ksclarke Yes, those were selling points for me. I have been vacillating for a month about what DE I'm going to have on them. I like features available both in gnome and kde plasma. The audience for these laptops with be a bit varied. It will be for teens interested in creative applications AND for patrons with little computer experience taking into to computers classes. Over they years I have been both a Gnome person and a KDE person and don't have religious fervor in either direction.

@ksclarke Ok. Well, thanks for the heads up.

I've had one of their desktops for years and it has been like a tank, but laptops are a totally different beast.

The choice of laptops was really in response to working in a building that only has about 1/3 of the floor space a library for this size of community should have.

Should be an interesting learning opportunity no matter what happens. :)

@NylaWoethief Yes. I have been very happy working with them and plan to do so in the future as well. My vision is for the library to eventually transition entirely to Linux computers.

Man I gotta say I feel sorry for librarians trying to make a living in some parts of Colorado. A lot of those jobs look good on paper (money-wise) until you see the median price of a house is nearly 1/2 of a million fucking dollars!

Actually just about any place I try to move is going to be an uphill battle. Living in rural-ish Iowa I'm in a gravity well as far as housing costs go. I really don't think the property value bubble thing ever got here to begin with.

After working all day, 10:15pm is the time of night when I'm working on the next month's book order that I just want to say "Fuck you, James Patterson and Fuck you, Danielle Steel" and just blow the whole wad on subversive materials.🤔

Trying to wrap my head around #btrfs snapshots and rollbacks hurts my brain. 🤕
